Jack was a dear freind and mentor of mine I have started a memorial fund for him here in Telluride at the alpine bank. It is under Jack Roberts and mine name Josh Butson. Please pass this info on to any one who may be interested. This fund is to help his wife with any exapensis she may need. My heart goes out to you Pam.

Anyone who can be smiling like that in *every* picture -- whether outside suffering on the ice, or hanging out with friends -- will surely be missed by many. I didn't know him, but his face is familiar from being around Boulder's climbing community -- condolences to his friends and family.

Very sad news, my deepest blessings to his family and friends. I never met Jack but I really enjoyed this article.

Jack taught me to ice climb in Telluride two years ago after a slide show he did at Jagged Edge. I was really excited to finally be learning and he let me prod him with questions for hours while always keeping that smile on his face. I think i had some idea of who he was and what he was about, but when I went home and found his interview in the then current Alpinist and saw his name on the cover of my CO Ice guide i knew that i had just spent the day with a legend. Since then, being privy to this community with him has just been icing on the cake. His stories and photos from his January '79 attempt of the Emperor Face on Mt. Robson defines, for me, the boldness, style, and spirit i try to emulate in my own climbing. I only knew him for a night and a day but, for me, something about meeting and learning from someone who had actually done the things most of us just read and dream about made those dreams into attainable realities. I guess that's the definition of being an inspiration. My love and condolences to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed.

Hi Everyone,

I am putting together the slide show for Jack's memorial service. We'll have an announcement on the time and location soon.

Please send me your best photos along with captions (identify others in the photo, location, date, etc), your full name, and any great quotes and stories. I'll need the photos as jpeg files and they need to be at least 2000 pixels on the long dimension, bigger is better. If you have video, let me know but don't send it yet. I have a preliminary music list from Pam but am open to more suggestions.

Email the photos to me with the subject "Jack photos" at clyde@clydesoles.com. Very important to use that subject so I can keep track of it all.

Thanks!
