Camping at Red Rocks
|
Hi I'm looking at doing a trip here during the first week of March. I am wondering if anyone has trip information that is helpful to have. Also where is the best place to camp for the week? Any other information that is considered helpful would be great. Thanks |

The only place to camp close to RR is the campground in RR. Make sure your tent can handle a decent amount of wind. |
|
There is only one place to camp there for the week: 13-mile campground. Have fun. |

I don't mean to hijack this thread but does anyone have info on camping near Red Rocks? |

Between the sticky and owning a guidebook to the area (reccommended), you should be on top of things. No need to spew vitriol at him. As others have said the campground at 13 mile is the standard spot, check the sticky thread with answers to every other question you could think of. And don't mind killis, he is just an angry little guy. |

Ok, what if I don't want to camp in the spring winds, what's the best way to find a deal on a hotel room. |

You could check out Lovell canyon if you don"t want to stay at camp Afghanistan(BLM campground), the sticky has the beta on getting there. It's good if you don"t mind tacking a drive onto the beginning and ending of each day. Good if you don't want to pay for the campground.. |
|
The nice thing about Lovell Canyon, besides the fact that you are out of the NCA and free of their pesky shooting regulations, is that with the $5-10 you save by driving all the way over the hill (avg mileage v6 or v8 truck) you can support local business by dropping into the Mountain Springs Saloon. |

Probably not a good idea to leave camp set up in Lovell Canyon while you're gone for the day. There have been reports of theft from unattended campsites. |

Killis Howard wrote:Good point, John, but I'd be pretty unlikely to leave my tent up at Afghanistan, too. Ah, Dorsal, I don't know how to tell you this, but I doubt it's fightin' or rock climbin' time, you might want to pull out the paper bag for yourself as per usual...Its hilarious you and your BF Rob apparently think I am some white trash waitress you hooked up with in St George... oh and BF is not "best friend". |

I would recommend that instead of bitching at each other over the internet we appreciate the 13 Mile Campground's new host Matt Kuehl by bringing him beer when we go there to camp, hang or whatever. |

Thank Nick and the BLM for doing something that makes sense! |

I welcome all climbers and outdoorsy folks to stop in and say hey while I'm working. I'm usually climbing in my off time too if anyone is desperate for a partner. |

Why don't we have a Rock Ranch or a Miguel's? |
|
I was thinking about cooking a frozen pizza over the campfire, how does that sound? |

Mike T wrote:Why don't we have a Rock Ranch or a Miguel's?land management/zoning politics. clark county has camping restrictions, and the BLM's RR Resource Management Plan states that their sole cg will be the existing one. Several folks have looked into a climbers cg, but it hasn't gone anywhere. As a user group, we tend not to have the "resources" to make things happen fast, vegas style... |
