Seeing if anyone has made something like this that is removable other than ring rocks around a pull up bar. Where I live I can not mount anything into the wall and im attempting to save some coin.

I just bolted a hangboard to a pull up bar sitting in my closet. Works pretty well.

^nice dirtbag innovation. Those things retail way less than a blankslate setup.

There was a thread about that a few months back discussed here:

tim f thank you. that is the innovation I was searching for! You da man

Tim, that's perfect. I think I've got the same bar in my closet too. Any tips on how you mounted the wood to the bar?

Javier L · · Asheville, NC · Joined Sep 2010 · Points: 636

Tim, thanks for your help, you're the man!
I ended up using 5/8"x3" lag shield anchors with 1/2"x4" lag screws (I hope I got those terms right). I had to try a few different lag shields because some of them were a little too big to fit (even though they were all 5/8"). I pre-drilled the plywood holes to 1/4".
This completes my home training gym.

Javier and Tim, could you go into more detail about how you securely attached the mounting board to the ends of those bars?

Steve86 · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Jul 2011 · Points: 10

I did something similar. Will take a picture when my new DRCC board gets here on Friday.

I have the same pullup bar. I just drilled two holes into a piece of 2x12 lumber that matched up with the two poles of bar. The holes were slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the bar. I pounded it in with a hammer and have an instant bomber press-fit. I originally planned on running a bolt/screw on the backside or inside the bar but with that size lumber + a press fit it's not going anywhere.

Man, those DRCC boards are kinda popular at the moment. Did sesh #3 on my new one on Tue.

Do you really only have that backer board attached to the pullup contraption with two lag bolts into the tubular aluminum?

No issues with the backerboard flexing or trying to rotate forward when you're hanging on the hangboard? Just looks inherently unstable with single pair of attachments and no other way to counter the moment (rotation) around the attachment point.

hey will, how are you liking the V512? i'm thinking about getting one for my next HB cycle.

Slim,

I'm going to put up a review in the next couple of days...maybe tonight actually since it's an off training day. Short version: small holds are very good and the dual-tex is fantastic, middle sloper has a good angle but is too narrow side-to-side so your thumbs bang together. I'd buy it again.

The moment isn't that big because the distance from the center of the board is an inch or two at the max.

I can't speak for anyone else but I put a 2x12 on the same pull up bar shown in these pictures by simply press fitting it into the board. I can bounce as hard as I want and it won't even flex (wobble). The 2x12 resist the torque surprisingly well.

Javier L · · Asheville, NC · Joined Sep 2010 · Points: 636

So far so good. It does flex. Maybe 2-3* or so??? It hasn't affected my work out mainly because I can't make much use of the smallest slopers, yet. If it flexes any more I'll put extra padding on the doorway to compensate. And at a cost of $5 versus $129 (I already had the pull up bar, which is like $20), I'm definitely not complaining. The V5.12 was $80 or so, if I'm not mistaken. the blankslate "the bomb" hangboard is $89 on the website and the blankslate itself is $129. If the setup busts, the hangboard can be easily placed elsewhere and I'll be out $5.

My shield anchors are 5/8 x 3 inches and screws are 1/2 by 4 inches. I'm not sure what Tim F used but he's the man with the original idea.

update - my buddy jumped on it yesterday. I'm 150 lbs, he's probably 20 + lbs more and the board flexes considerably more. So this setup is probably only for us lightweights. If it breaks, I'd consider doing the press-fit.

Got my 5.12 in the mail today and mounted it up on the board. Thought I would share a quick photo. I'm probably going to add a few holds along the top to provide even more range.

From my experience with DRCC you can ask them to send you colors of the holds/hangboards that they have and select the crazy one that you want.

I have only ordered climbing holds from them and they did a custom job for free everytime and they look amazing. Easily one of the top climbing hold companies out there. Below is one set that I have photos of:

The DRCC Slots. Asked them to do some crazy colors and this is the result. Almost too pretty to climb on.

It's a 3 layer gradient with swirls. I think. The best thing to do is call them and talk to them about the color/design options. The options page on their site is a little confusing but I called them the Monday after xmas and they were super helpful even though it was a holiday for most people.

Mini review: All hangboards should be dual texture. This thing is sweet.

just placed my order over the phone for a black v512 w/ red, yellow, and blue swirls. they said it might come out kind of funky. can't wait to get it. too bad i am in the middle of a cycle and don't want to change horses mid-stream. i'll probably just hang it up and stare at it for a few weeks... :)

the gals i talked to were real nice too.

+1 on great DRCC customer service

They upgraded from Gray to the color scheme above just because it was ready to be molded. Saved me a few bucks but more importantly, they were great to deal with.

How in the world did you mount the wood to the pull up bar?! And I'm a girl, so don't use fancy man terms, thanks!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
