Hey s fischer do you live where it doesnt freeze? 18 inches seems a little shallow to me generally ya would want to go down to 36 inches to get below the freeze line to prevent frost heave.

I'm in Central North Carolina, where the grass is lucky to see a frost or a dusting of snow. In addition to the 18" footers, it is tied into a pad that is 6" thick.

I'm not too worried about it...

I like the yellow curved feature. You make that?

A friend did. It's super cool, but if had one complaint it'd be that it's so curved that I can only put small holds on the front of it. That being said it was free, and it's pretty damn rad so i'm not bitching too much.

I was guessing the curve affected the size of holds you could mount on it. But some small bucket holds should still work well. Features rock' on woody walls.

Yep i'm addicted to 'em. Keep making more and more. Soon my entire wall is going to be a feature. I had a lot of plywood left over from when i built it just laying around collecting dust, so i figured i'd put it to good use.

My woody! Not the bouldering wall I envisioned when I started planning, but training on these two and my metolius rock rings seems to be working out pretty well.

finished this a week or so ago. it's about 12 feet long, 4 ft wide. It's screwed directly into the rafters in the attic, so the angle is around 45 degrees.

unfortunately i broke a t-nut last night... probably overtightened the bolt

Hope you 'liquid nails' glued down the back side of the t-nuts. Keeps them from spinning or tearing out on an overtightened hold. I had a similiar setup screwed up the rafters of a barn at steep angle. Was absolutely a burn to climb that last 16 ft. of steep crimps.

I got a little lazy toward the end, so i decided not to use any glue or epoxy. the other problem is that i used a 1/2 inch drill bit, so the holes are bigger than the t-nuts.

but the one that's broken so far isn't a spinner, the t-nut just broke! i've been really tightening the holds down hard, so maybe i need to back off...

Not exactly a "woody" per se, but here's my Metolius Simulator:

Hangboard

Hangboard 2

It is attached to the plywood with some small t-nuts, and there are 4 lag bolts attaching that to the studs in the wall. I plan on adding a couple of pinches to the lower corners soon.

Also, a question for hangboarders:

Does anyone know of an iPhone app that can do consecutive timer intervals of different durationss? For example, I'd love to have an app that can do:

15 sec.
30 sec.
15 sec.
30 sec.

...back-to-back. Or a more extensive list of times that automatically count down as each interval finishes, such as:

7 sec
3 sec
7 sec
3 sec
7 sec
3 sec
2 minutes
(repeat)

I'd love to be able to program an entire workout's worth of intervals and have it just go on its own with no further interaction needed once it has started. Anybody know of something that can do this?

Do you guys have any suggestions for good places online to get hardware, specifically T-nuts and bolts for holds? Anywhere that takes Paypal would be preferable (have some extra Paypal cash that I'm hoping to use to help finance my wall construction).

I use this app. You can set low/high interval within each set.

I have been working on a side-project collecting information for home woody's. A couple months ago I researched all of the T-Nut prices I could find on the internet and put a comparison table here:

andylibrande.com/homeclimbi…

Let me know if that helps. Also if you find a decent deal elsewhere please let me know. I did not catalog if they took paypal or not.

For bolts apparently this site is the best: mcmaster.com/#socket-head-c…

However the only reason I have ever purchased bolts was because I have an outdoor climbing wall and needed the zinc plated bolts to help stop corrosion. I have so many of the black bolts from ordering holds that I feel that even if you are a little light on bolts at the beginning over time you will have more then enough (unless you are making your own holds). You will need the 3/8" x 16 socket head bolts by whatever length you need (standard is ~2.5").

I have purchased the zinc ones from Fastenal as well but the prices have gone up significantly since then and the above site has way better deals.

Well with no ice to climb (yet), i made these to hang on my wall to practice ice climbing. they are surprisingly fun and can be sort of hard.

Ice 'logs' look creative. I strung an old rope through a swim pool 'noodle' and used it horizontally for tool hanging and movements across a wall space. Was fun while it lasted.

Thanks a lot Andy, and your site is awesome! There's tons of useful information that's helping me out.

As far as the T-nuts are concerned, do you have a recommended amount to buy?
