Thoughts on Stoic products?

Hi all,

Like the title says, I'm wondering if anyone out there has any experience with clothing from Stoic, the backcountry.com house brand? The prices seem reasonable based on the product descriptions (especially if you get it from Steep and Cheap), but I'm sure there's some bias in how the gear is presented on backcountry or SAC.

Is this gear any good, or is it a waste of money?

Thanks!

They are good. I have their 15F sleeping bag that I got from steep and cheap for about half off. Very good quality. Treated me well in JTree. Compressed down to easily fit into my luggage. I also picked up one of their softshell pants. Very durable pants. A little on the heavy side, but still a bargain for softshell.

I have several Stoic products, all of which are quite good. And they are almost always a great deal if you get them on SteepAndCheap.

I've been a Stoic poster child ever since I realized there was no curbing my Steep and Cheap addiction. I have 2 puffies (down and synthetic), softshell & hardsell jackets, softshell pants, gloves, a bunch of merino baselayers, bought jackets for multiple girlfriends () and probably a dozen more items I can't think off.

For clothing, forget it if you're not tall and skinny. Most of their stuff is super fitting. My only complaints is super tight sleeves on jackets and pants that tend to be a bit too Euro tight (and I'm a Euro).
Quality/durability has never been an issue and I use my Stoic shell 99% of the time for skiing in the Wasatch (not cold and dry). It performs as well as my $500 Arcteryx shell and looks better. I might go for the Arcteryx on a rainy day or if I had to build a belay near a waterfall.

I just got one of their tents on SAC and looking at it next to my TNF tent I am blown away by how much better it is (functionality, design, etc...)

Can't beat Stoic, especially at SAC prices IMO.

I agree with everyone above.

I have a fleece hoody (awesome blue color... I think it's called "deep emperial" or something), a pair or their softshell pants, and a waterproof duffel.

All three products are outstanding, especially for the prices on Steep and Cheap.

I am going to have to ask for a man card after that statement.

Yeah, the brand is good. On par with Marmot I'd say. I think it would be doing a lot better if they didn't choose atrociously garish coloring for 90% of their products.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
