Arkansas climbing season

What kind of weather could I expect at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch between Christmas and New Years. My guess is it depends on the day...looking for a diversion on the drive from the east coast to Colorado.

The weather definitely varies there, but I had good luck last year. A few friends and I went down for New Years and we had 50's New Years Eve and 40's the next few days.

We plan on this again, and our philosophy for climbing in Arkansas during the winter is if it is a nice blue bird day rope up and hit some routes. If it is a day where you don't really want to be out of your warm shoes much, grab the crash pad and do some bouldering. HCR has lost of both and if you don't have your own pad they rent them at a pretty good price per day.

Hope the info helps and have fun climbing!

I have had great luck with winter-weather there. with it's horseshoe shape, something is always facing the sun... if the sun is out. Good luck. Also, Sam's throne is nearby and awesome. I recommend it highly.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
