Looking to find a couple or 3 of people to go with(FROM THE CHICAGO AREA) to the Sandstone Ice Fest on 12/9-11, 2011

LMK if you can make the trip.

If the weather is good we can fly my plane over(cuts down the 8.5hr drive to about 2.5hrs). I will check into local airports. $10 entry and FREE camping plus travel expenses/food.

Thanks

Joel

Do you know if they have had luck farming ice this year? The website seems to be down last couple days

There's a new ice farming structure at the top, I think it just depends on the weather now.

Is it a $10 dollar fee just to climb there then during the fest? Last year it was free, and i think the only fee was if you wanted to participate in the clinics. Have you been Juggler? Last year it was amazing! There are some mixed routes that you can set a rope on that are tough but awesome. some lines have flows that get super thick on top and peter out towards the bottom so you have to dry tool to get at them then its in your face slightly overhanging. There will be a few ropes and some waiting on the thick easy flows, but the thinner more obscure ones are the business and make the fest worth the long drive. I couldn't believe how few people there were last year, granted it was during a blizzard, but still what an amazing place a rarity for the midwest!

That sounds right, but I don't even see anywhere to pay for the clinics this year.

Does anyone know who the speaker will be for this year's ice fest?

Juggler,

I just found out about this fest today. I'm trying to recruit a couple guys to go from the Chicago area. Two guys live in Tinley, and I live in the city. I'm pretty sure we've all met in the past. We ran into each other in the Muir Valley parking lot this year, and a few of us came out to the ice silo in the past. Hopefully, I can get concrete answers from these guys in the next day or two. Message me if your plans change.

AJ

AJ...that was me at Muir parking lot; Juggler's never been to the Red yet. Check in with him on the space left in the plane for the trip up there. Should be room yet it sounds.

Oops, my bad I got confused. Thanks for the help. Right now I'm trying to get Jeremy and Erik to commit. Still waiting to here back from Erik, he was calling a local up near sandstone to check out the ice conditions. I'll post an update when I hear something.

We helped out a bit on the shed project for the hydrant last weekend and then did some mixed climbing. The ice was decent for only one night of farming. Temps look good. I think there will be a fair amount of ice, but only time will tell.
