Could Ondra free the Dawn Wall?

I know he's not plugging gear yet....but the kid has onsighted how many 5.14c's now? Maybe TC should rope up that young gun!

Absolutely not!

We were just discussing that we would like to see Sharma and Cadwell team up as well. I feel like Sharma, Ondra, etc are so one dimensional. It would be cool to see these guys branch out into different aspects of climbing. Much respect for Dave Macleod, the true "all arounder".

I suspect Ondra could do it, but I also agree that there's pretty much no way he could walk up to the route and just do it. I also think that Ondra is probably more well-rounded than Sharma these days, because he has done multi-pitch sport and bouldering recently, while Sharma has focused almost exclusively on single-pitch sport.

Unfortunately, Ondra probably won't feel the need to learn to plug gear unless he ends up in America (or more specifically Yosemite), because almost everything is bolted in Europe.

Finally, and most importantly, I think Ondra would respect the time that Caldwell has put into the route, and so would any other potentially capable climber. I think any climber that seriously tried the route without consulting with Tommy would get a torrent of negative press.

Personally, I'd like to see Trotter traded to Manchester United to repeat If Six Was Nine, Caldwell to Dave Graham's Crackers to smoke too much pot, talk too fast, and generally do all the annoying stuff I did the first couple of years that I climbed before I bought a personality, and Chris Sharma to the Creek Dirtbag Alliance so the number of hard routes there can triple every week for a few years. This is a very silly thread. Trolled.
Wait, wait, wait. Can MP make a fantasy league?

I will trade you Daniel Woods and Sharma for Layton Kor or Royal Robbins. Heck, I will throw in five or six Boulderites in puffies to sweeten the deal. I know I might not score that many points this week but I am banking on the ethics multiplier to pull ahead at the end of the season.

If a discussion or thread doesn't interest you, move on. Your constantly negative comments are getting old man, though I know you don't give a flying f@#$.

Don't get butt-hurt, just think about it.

What's an Ondra?

and why is Dawn Wall locked up?

I'm also dropping by, unnecessarily, to say that this is a pointless, speculative, uninspiring thread that actually waters down the cumulative value of this forum by being devoid of any thing worth thinking about. We should aspire to add value to the community, not just toss out any random thought that come into our heads.

No offense to the OP, but what are we supposed to do with this?

Oh, by the way: Has Dean Potter been to South Africa? Could Ueli Steck complete the whole milk challenge? Could Ondra get a PhD? Interesting stuff, eh?

It's a simple and fun question about our favorite athletes that should be answered simply. Take it for what it is.....no need to be so negative.

I'm just saying, I'd love to see these uber strong boulderers/bolt clippers get on the Big Stone and see what they can do. The crux pitches of the Dawn Wall are said to be 5.14+......and Ondra has been cruising routes of that grade recently.

I'm not sure its safe to let Ondra into the Yosemite area, his high frequency hissy fits could trigger rock fall and avalanches throughout the Yosemite/Sierra region.

Totally off topic, but Lance Armstrong was a triathlete before he got into road biking... he also routinely competed in cyclocross and mountain biking events during the off season while riding in the Tour.

And won the Leadville 100. Still a douchebag though.

He set the record for the "Race Across the Sky" in Leadville Colorado. The other riders consider it almost unbeatable.

Also, while Ondra is currently doing routes of this same grade in Spain, doing a cave juggy 5.14 is a little different from doing funky crimpy 5.14 granite on a big wall after sleeping on a portaledge. Not saying he couldn't do it, but it would be very hard work. Tommy has the best chance of anyone to pull this off. If I were to vote for someone else to have a high chance of success, I would vote for the Huber Brothers.

I think Ondra could do it and i think he could get it done within a season for sure. I understand the difference in styles but i know he doesn't have a problem with super technical slabs and he can hold on to anything. That being said i strongly doubt we will be seeing Ondra in Yosemite at all for a while.

I'm pretty sure Levi Leipheimer beat that record the very next year...so not really untouchable. Ondra or Sharma could probably send the bolted face pitches....could they send the real trad pitches though?

Ondra vs. Ditka?

In King Lines Sharma climbs Moonlight Butress, not 5.14 but it proves he can climb trad. Plus with him routinely taking 50 foot whippers I would think he would make a good trad climber.

Plugging gear is not that hard (not nearly as hard as what I can only imagine a 5.14 move to be). I would think any pro climber could make the transition if they chose too.

Not saying they could do the Dawn Wall, I have no idea.

Vertical. Check. Multi pitch. Check. Portaledge. Check. Crushed. Double check.

Ditka!

Ondra vs. Mini-Ditka?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
