Visiting a friend in the Salt lake area in mid December. Wondering if climbing in Moab would be possible during this time of year? Would Vegas be a better option? Don't climb ice, so might stick to snowboarding if the weather is too cold, but trying to figure out the best options,

Potash Road, Indian Creek, and other one pitch sunny walls are chilly but possible except immediately after storms(never climb on wet desert sandstone). Sometimes bigger stuff is possible during warm stretches - i've climbed Castleton in January before. Nights are long and cold so a motel room in Moab is nice. St George and Vegas are generally a bit warmer but not always. Warm south facing walls in the cottonwoods are sometimes still climbable in December as well.

ITs pretty cold here in December and January. The surface of the walls, on sunny, calm days is fine. But you have to plunge your hands into the cracks... its cold in there.

All the coldest places in the world are deserts... Moab is only about 15 degrees warmer, on average, than Jackson WY.
