Most of the bones are from a cow elk that went down there from sickness about 6-7 years ago. I watched the poor thing for two weeks or so when I was stopping by after work. Contacted the BLM about euthanizing her. She went down on her own. Stayed away for about a year because of the smell. Called them the dead elk instead of East Elk Boulders after that.

Jason Kaplan. More star trails, no climber this time.... Scary shot to produce alone in cat territory with old [elk] remains in the vicinity. Walked up from my car and back probably 5 -10 times alone in the dark.
