Lakewood area?

My wife is finally accepting a job offer monday. We've had a big problem finding a place to rent that will allow a pit. I've finally found a place that will allow it in Lakewood near the intersection of 285 and wadsworth. Can anyone tell me what this area is like? She'll be commuting to Thornton right off 25 so she'll have to go through Denver.

Anyone that can help with housing in that general area that will allow pits please email me. We'd like to stay under $1000/month with utilities to get established.

That will be a terrible commute, an hour plus each way. I'm just a little further west of there and it takes 35 mins to commute to downtown.

Have you looked in Westminster, Broomfield, Louisville, Lafayette, Longmont, etc.? Not sure about the Pit Bull restrictions in those cities, but I was under the impression Pit Bulls are only prohibited in the City and County of Denver.

That is kinda (WAY) outta the way from thornton. Check out Arvada or Wheat Ridge. Why not Thornton? Tell 'em its a damn boxer mix!

They have issues w. those dogs around here for whatever reason. I think Louisville may be another option.

Call the Maxfund they may be able to help

Wheat Ridge has very enlightened dog laws. They punish the owners for dog issues, NOT the breeds. It is a couple of minutes from i-70, so a relatively easy (still far ~30-45 mintues) commute to Thornton. Arvada is in the area too, but don't know their dog laws.
Housing in the area should be around what you are looking to spend.
Bonus: 10 minutes from clear creek & 30 minutes to eldo!

awesome thanks guys. We're used to commuting an hour each way here in Chicago (less than 10 miles). That place in Lakewood is 16 miles from her hospital and you're saying it's an hour commute? She'll be working nights also... Either way we're getting pretty desperate, I've been searching CL without a lot of luck. Louisville has BSL banning pits. It's not really the town laws but the restriction of the apartment complexes themselves. It's hard to pass him off as anything else... he's purebred pitbull- small 60lbs, but a really awesome dog.

I'll look into wheat ridge thanks!

Nick - that would be one of the worst possible commutes that you could have in this area.... sure, you are used to a long commute after living in Chicago, but why spend hours sitting in the car when you could be out playing?!

As others have suggested, Wheatridge and Arvada are both great, you should also look into Golden. We are in the unincorporated part of Golden (north of Golden) which has excellent access to climbing and to the major highways - also quite a bit cheaper than Golden proper or Boulder.

It looks like the only places that have formal pit bull bans are: Aurora, Castle Rock, Commerce City, Denver, Ft Lupton and Louisville. The other cities just phrase it as 'dangerous dog' which is how it should be.

Your dog is beautiful by the way.... Glad you are getting out here soon!

That's nonsense. Perhaps if you were foolish enough to take 285N to Sante Fe to I-25N it would take you an hour.

Take 285S to 470 to 70 to 76 to I-25. Should be 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Working a night shift I could see doing it in 15 minutes or so. I drove this yesterday morning, departing at 7:37 am, hit plenty of traffic, and I was north of Thornton in less than half an hour.

Bear down.

Also, 285 S is actually westbound in Denver; a bit confusing. The Santa Fe north path is only bad from 7-9 a.m. too. Just watch your driving through the Englewood section of southbound Santa Fe, bloodsucking cops watch it like vultures. Don't get tempted by the mile long clear path in the right turn only lane when you're stuck in a jam.

Just curious, is the brand new hospital at 6th and Simms fully staffed? You'll be a lot closer to that one. I know that a VA is being planned for Golden, also some more here in the south end. You'll be fairly well located. Just be prepared for a really quiet, boring neighborhood.

Hi Nick -sweet looking pit dogie!

I have to agree w/general consensus here on time & traffic and also suggest north of downtown. I didn't notice any mention of the town of Erie which has good deals on newer builds. The 'old towns' of Lafayette or Louisville are very dog-friendly and you'll have options commuting south on Wads/287 or 36 into Westminster when I-25 fills up

OMG 1st snow of the season is falling right now -woohoo..!!

Congrads & welcome to Colorado (bring yer shovel & ice scraper)

Yes, snowing today. And thus we begin another 14 long months of deadly CO winter; no point for anyone else to move here.
Hey kirra! Been a while. Drop me a line sometime.

No. The Angry's wrong. The weather sucks here. WAY worse than Chicago. Started snowing today -- won't stop until May.

This will still be mostly management company postings (compiles Craigslist and a few others), but might help sorting listings with your location specific requirements: padmapper.com/

It's a great site, good luck

Haha, now that's funny! The best part is that happened again last year!

I emailed maxfund, hopefully they can provide some insight. With all the people that move to colorado and the popularity of the breed I can't believe there isn't a website or something specifically set up for people like us.

I work at that intersection.

The area is kind of crappy in all honesty. Some restaurants near by, but mostly suburban sprawl. I'd try and get closer to DU that way you're near 25, not paying downtown prices, but not that far from downtown. This is, however, a young single male's opinion.

We found a place in Boulder instead! Not as close to Thornton as we'd have liked but it's a shorter commute then we do now, and I think it's a pretty awesome location! We found a place a couple blocks away from movement climbing and fitness by 36 and valmont. I should be out there December 1st. =)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
