A better ways to keep track of routes you've done?

Awesome, Nick. Now if I could only find out how to climb more...

Fun to make purty charts! I added three more added:
- Trad/Sport/TR pie chart (for rock climbs)
- Boulder Ratings
- Rock/Boulder/Alpine/Mixed/Ice pie chart

I'll volunteer Peter's page as a nice demo:

sport climber!!

i'm totally kidding. that is one very well-rounded breakdown.
i know its just pies and charts? but that is pretty damn cool.

Those pie charts awesome, but need a key of some key, either a color key at the base of the graph or labels on the slices, otherwise it is not very obvious to me at least which slices represent which climbs. Please point out if I've missed something obvious.

Also, I think there is a potential for routes to be miscategorized. Devils Lake, where I mostly climb and where pretty much everything can/has been led on gear, but most ascents are top ropes, will have this problem most. A lot of climbs listed as trad/TR. I also know that a common designation for mixed routes is to call them trad/sport. How do the pie charts as currently implemented handle this?

To correct at least the trad/TR problem I would suggest adding an option to list ticks as either trad climbs or topropes (or sport climbs or topropes or any other choice), otherwise the pie charts won't be very meaningful for a lot of people.

Post edited for terrible grammar.

Remember this is just for fun... I'm not going to get too hung up on details of graphing your precise history. If you get "credit" for a trad climb that you TR'd... whatever.

Some notes for those of you that care about the details:
- a boulder counts as 1 pitch
- boulder ratings are rounded up, i.e. V5-6 becomes V6
- +/- are dropped for all boulders and routes <= 5.9
- all the rock ratings are "rounded" as you would expect (5.10a becomes 5.10-, 5.10d becomes 5.10+)
- for routes designated "sport/TR" for example, sport takes precedence, then trad, and finally TR, but only if neither of the other two are specified (each route is only counted once). Routes with no designation are skipped (not sure if there are any)
- similar logic for routes designated "Alpine/Ice". Precedence is: Alpine, Snow, Ice, Mixed, Boulder, Rock. Routes are only counted once.
- Hover over the pie wedges and you'll find what each piece stands for. I'm omitting a legend on purpose.

Is there a reason my posts on this thread keep getting deleted?

Yes, you keep trying to resurrect an off-topic discussion that the admin has clearly and politely asked to be moved to a separate thread.

Nick, thanks for the quick reply. I didn't think to check for mouseovers. Thanks for putting the work in to make these plots.

Super fun! Now I have proof I'm not a sport climber and proof I don't climb hard :)

UGH! Currently underway on my navy boat and we're still running IE Version- OAS( old as shit), and of course super low bandwidth so nothing loads for me on the new feature page. Sooo excited to pull back in and check it out on a non-dinosaur system. Ive been extremely meticuous in ticking every climb I have accomplished since moving out to California. Including repeats. I had been secretly hoping something like this would come along one day, maybe I shouldn't have been so secretive. Glad to see MP. com continuing to lean forward into the future with great upgrades. Especially following up on User suggestions. Big kudos!

Look at tick breakdown.

I really like the Ticks feature and use it mostly as a personal log. Thanks for all the work on this guys.

One suggestion I have is to include the location information for each route in the Export list.

Really nice job, Nick. Thanks a lot.

I can't imagine why people want to hide their ticks from the public route pages. When researching routes, I like reading the list of who has climbed a particular route along with all of the short tick comments.

good work Nick- this is awesome

Awesome. But while we are at it is there any way to sort the routes by areas? I would love to see charts of my progress at different areas. Also it would be awesome if you could click on different parts of the charts and see a list of those ticks.

Props! Awesome feature.

I was wondering if there was any way you could list routes that we've repeated and new routes separately. That probably didn't make sense so here's an example. say I've climbed one route ever but I've climbed it 7 times. Is there a way if I ticked it 7 times to show two different numbers, one number being the number of different routes I've done (1) and the other number being the total number of routes I've climbed (7)

Adam Paashaus wrote:There is most likely no easy answer to this but, one small prob I have with this system is that if you dont top out a multipitch route, there is no way to log the pitches that you have done. For example my list shows I have climbed 5.12 and *sigh*, I have not.
It is definitely a semantic debate, but ever since I started climbing, I always defined a tick as a route I completed on lead, or swinging leads without falls. This means for me on a multi pitch route you have to go all the way. When it is multi pitch season, I often go months without ticking things because I don't meet these criteria.

I know that everyone defines a tick differently and uses the tick feature differently, however, I always thought that my definition was something that climbers agreed on.

I am curious about others thoughts on the definition of a "tick."

EDIT: Even though I don't use the tick feature, I might be more interested in using it if there were a couple of other categories for logging routes.
1. Routes you have been on, but are works in progress (Adam's situation, or a route you are projecting).
2. A place to log repeats of routes you have already done (would be nice for tracking training sessions at the crag)
Thoughts?

Think about Genesis in Eldo. Most people only do the 11a first pitch and skip the 12d second pitch. The 11a is classic and worthy of a tick!
