A better ways to keep track of routes you've done?
|
So some other site out there that seems to be pretty hard to navigate, has a sweet feature where it takes all the climbs you've done, and shows you in a sweet tree-diagram how many of each grade you've done, and how many of them were onsights or redpoints or TRs. |

Someone posted this a while back: |

that's pretty fancy- I obviously need to add more ticks, but JLP has a good point that it's kinda weird that they show up on route pages. +1 for a switch to disable that |
|
I'm not able to find out my number, any hints? |

David, I like the sound of that. Give me a URL to "some other site" and I might implement something similar here. |

On the other hand, take away the user base, about anything is better than 8a.nu.While it may be true that the "elite" members of the climbing community don't frequent this site as much as Supertopo or 8a, I don't think it should be attributed to the number of "regular" climbers that congregate here. That said: -I think that some additions to the tick list would be great. A few modern visualizations of the number, frequency, and grade of a user's ticks would be a cool thing to have. -Opting out of having your ticks displayed on a route page would be nice too, although I think that if you give a route a grade it should NOT be allowed to be an anonymous contribution. |

Go to anyone's profile page on 8a and click "Routes" near the top and you'll see what we mean. [edit] Or I could actually be helpful and post a screenshot: |

I don't want to turn this into an 8a vs. MP debate, but: |

Unfortunately, there might need to be some stepping up of the censoring, Peter. It is starting to get pretty obnoxious to have to wade though a lot of the posts. It is sad to see how many people don't have the sense to keep their mouths shut when they only have the urge to insult or write something really juvenile. |

FWIW, I think being able to see other people's ticks has benefits. Where's the beef with having your name show up on the route page when you "tick" it? |

I kinda like the ticks to put comments I can look back at and see how far I've progressed mentally or how awesome a trip was, kinda useless personal inside thoughts that probably do more cluttering than helping in the community, but are invaluable to me. just my 2 cents |

A little form note sent to abusive posters might be enough to wake some of them up..I agree. Feel free to start another thread in this section if you want to get a discussion going on the current state of moderation. We always like to hear back from people on how we're doing! |

When researching new areas or new routes in general, I find it invaluable to know how many people have climbed the route. It's a nice way to cross-reference the star rating. ...I don't currently use the "tick" feature because of the public nature of it -- feels like spray. I probably would use it if there was a "switch" to keep it private. But Nick has an interesting point. Maybe a middle ground would be to keep listing the ticks of people who didn't turn it off, as well as a line for "anonymous ticks" that just shows a tally of how many other people have ticked it privately? |

8a.nu has been around for years and years & is the international standard for recording hard send... copying their system might be a good idea but trying to one up them... seems futile. What I am to do try to transcribe 10 yrs of climbing ticks from their system to MP? |
|
I added this just for fun. Here's my page, but it will work for all of you (that have ticks). |
|
I would be curious to see a Trad/Sport Breakdown. This is great. Thanks for your efforts here. |
|
Awesome Nick! Now I can actually see the point in adding ticks! |
|
Copying 8a.nu's layout would be kind of skanky without their permission, if not outright copyright infringement. Something to think about. What's wrong with 2 different sites, 8a.nu for those into keeping score and MP for sharing information? Personally, I very rarely go to 8a.nu any more and stopped putting ticks in years ago. 8a.nu is basically only good for spraying or checking out pictures of hot looking European woman climbers (a good enough reason for existence IMO.) |

Love the tick breakdown. Something else fun to play with. I tick everything just as my only climbing log. Could you add boulders? Could you toggle on/off including all of one grade together such as list all 5.10s instead of 10-, 10, 10+ etc? |
|
Adding boulder problems would be greatly appreciated. |
|
There is most likely no easy answer to this but, one small prob I have with this system is that if you dont top out a multipitch route, there is no way to log the pitches that you have done. For example my list shows I have climbed 5.12 and *sigh*, I have not. |
