Description
The Dead Zone is a collection of northerly facing crags on the backside of the mountain with Horsemen's Center and despite it's proximity is much less visited perhaps owing to the rugged approach.
Climbing here is similar to Fairview Mountain with a steep hike to scattered formations on a rugged hillside but without the nice network of trails and a decidedly old-school vibe to the routes.
The area is comprised of 4 main areas - The Apostle Pillars, The Launch Pad, Shipwreck and The Tomb with a few scattered routes on smaller formations and approach times varying from 20-45 minutes depending upon the crag visited and your degree of fitness.

Getting There
Turn north off Highway 18 onto Joshua Road and then make an immediate right onto Yucca Loma Road which is followed for 2 miles to a dirt road on the right (Sherri Lane). Make a right and follow a series of dirt roads south until a parking area at the base of the mountain is reached.
The trail start off to the west slightly and heads up a steep hillside with lots of boulders and graffiti before reaching an initial plateau where the formations will come into view:

- The Apostle Pillars are slightly south and west with The Tomb further south uphill and slightly west.
- The Launch Pad is straight ahead and reached by a faint trail up a canyon with Shipwreck further uphill to the south and slightly to the east.
