As to the forgetting which side the biner opens on, if you clip your gear on facing the same way everytime there's no issue with that whatsoever.
Good point. I usually climb scared, though. When I'm sketched out above a poorly-placed cam with a mouth full of nut wires, trying 3 different nuts before I find one that fits, I sometimes forget which side of the biner is which.

I use the wire oval that came with my BD nuts. I actually bought a proton solid gate that was keylock obviously, due to some peoples suggestions.

This was a few months ago, and after dropping a nut here and there due to the change, and then missing a clip back onto my harness (Gumby alert) I switched back to the wire oval.

I use a Umert Leadmaster Mark IV oval with the neon yellow finish.

Nah, at least some of us are spewing opinions without any thought at all... well, at least I am.

I put an individual color coded nuetrino on each nut. That way I can quickly identify the sizes on my harness and they are ready for a quick draw. You guys put more than one nut on a biner? Are you crazy?

I like these. Camp "Photon" bent gate. They don't snag like a lot of other biners.

I tried racking on wire-gates, but after the wires almost unclipping themselves when the biner rotated, I scrapped racking on wiregates.

The much cheaper alternative to the Petzl Owall that I use is the Climb Axe Classic oval, it as a locker/not and keylock/not and a great price

I've gone to wiregate ovals, mostly. That and a choinard I'd bootied for the lil ones. The gate thing is a non-starter for me. That notched gate is about as likely to save your nuts from falling off in the midst of your nuttery (a technical term) as it is to hang you up and prevent you sending the 5.13r gnar gnar.

I guess you should also be comfortable with the biner for all purposes. I've had several leads this summer where my legs were shaking and my arms were quaking and somehow that biner, nuts and all, became the draw too. That's how you know you're having fun.

I try not to rack my nuts, ever. That's just painful.
