Yarp wrote:Thank you Andrew for that little gem of info although I fail to see how this was a near death experience. Sorry that you had to witness this horrible and egregious violation of the rules of "safe" climbing! On a completely unrelated note... Today I saw someone smoking a cig while going through a mcdonalds drive up window with their gas guzzling hummer which was still plastered with McCain/ Palin stickers. I was reminded how much smarter, better, and more awesomer than everyone else I was, so I came right home and posted it on the internet so that others could share of my cup of overflowing wisdom. This public service announcement has been brought to you by a couple of self righteous douche nozzles. Thank you.

Yarp's trolling is a bit too wordy for a 12 year old, so I'm guessing maybe 16 or 17... when he or she gets a driver's license and finds new ways to cause trouble things may ease up here a bit. Can't get too put out, though- in another 15 years Joe and I will need all the young folks we can find to pay into social security...

Don't let the thread-shitter derail the conversation guys.

Luckily his belayer still had the rope in his hands even though he wasnt on belay and after falling about 10ft was saved by his partners hands. The guy gets down jokes a bit about the ordeal and goes right back to goofing off. All the while me and my partner are stunned at what we could have witnessed. Just reiterates for me how very important communication is while climbing and how simple mistakes can be the line between life and death.

He flailed the whole way up. We waited for like 20 min to get on it--that's how long it took him. He did get up though--if that counts for something.

Awesome!

Thanks Andrew for proving my point that yer a self righteous douche nozzle.

Would it be possible for someone to put together a list of "safe" climbing rules that we can all refer to? I want to be one of the cool kids that gets to go to the crags and point out everyone else's faults and weaknesses to my partners and upon their approval I'll make sure to run my sorry ass home and post up right quick so you guys can all feel superior too. I mean who the hell do these "bro's" think they are? Out at the crags climbing and having fun while I have to wait 20 WHOLE MINUTES for them to finish a climb that they dared to get on before me?

I love how guideline #1 doesn't apply on this site if you act like a passive aggressive dick but being honest and direct will earn you a whole page of personal insults. Love it!

When having your bro lower you after cleaning the route, yell down or signal to said bro, "Got me, BRO??!!" Bro replies, "Yo!" or "A'ight" and you are good.

If there are slampieces around make sure you do some rappel tricks on the way down.

I was expecting some wild story about how you almost died, but instead wasted my time hearing about the average tools you meet at crags sometimes, cool story bro.

Now "Yarp" is headed for the high ground.

I've seen you post a bunch of snarky comments to people, totally unprovoked. It's a stretch to say you're just being honest. Tone it down, man. Most people on here are positive and cool. You're generally not one of 'em. Turn over a new leaf and try to be cool, instead of posting sarcastic, critical fluff. Most people will probably blow off your previous snarkiness and let it slide. I'll be the first.

Pretty sure I didn't start this thread Andrew. I believe you were the one that decided they just had to post their holier than thou opinions on a public forum and encourage people to comment on them. Were you expecting everyone to agree with your stereotyping of these climbers you happened to see have a close call at the crag?

Yarp, we missed you on the top rope and perma-draw threads! What's the matter? Trad Ninja got your tongue?

As for the OP, I think it's perfectly appropriate to give a short anecdote to remind everyone that this is a common reason people deck and to use commands always, cause you all know we don't always use commands. If you don't need to be reminded, don't read it!

Again, I call for a MP convention in Vegas so internet arguments can be decided in the octagon.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
