Organ donor question

Hi,

I am new to this kind of topic. So if one is an organ donor and indicated on their driver license, does that automatically make him an organ donor when he/she's fatally injured from a climbing or outdoor accident?

Or there is a seperate process to make one become organ donor if he/she fatally hurt from recreational event?

My understanding is that your drivers license is a convenient way of communicating your wishes regarding organ donation since you will be unable to lend an opinion once you are dead. I think it varies by state but your next of kin will be making the final decision. I have received three donated corneas, and there is a big need for organs. I think its a good way to add a shred of positive after a huge negative.

The best way to be sure is to have a living will, and make sure your family can access it.

FYI about organ donation - one donor can have an effect on 100+ recipients nowadays. Pretty amazing!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
