Description Suggest change

Dry Canyon is a popular hiking area for accessing the west face of Mount Timpanogos (11,750'), including Everest Ridge. The tall limestone cliffs on each side of the canyon is known as the Great Blue Gate, being part of the Great Blue limestone formation. The approach follows a well maintained trail with excellent views of Utah Valley (Uinta National Forest Trail #049).

Watch for loose rock as some of the limestone is a bit crumbly (helmets recommended). Routes on the north side of the canyon get a lot of sunshine making them quite warm on summer afternoons. North and east facing routes will provide shady relief.

A pit-toilet was installed at the trail head in 2007, and the road and parking lot was paved in 2008. No drinking water is available. Despite the canyon's name, during wet years there is a little water in the creek up in the canyon (use a water filter).

Keep an eye out for stinging nettle as it is common in the canyon.

Getting There Suggest change

This canyon is north of Provo Canyon on the west face of Mt. Timpanogos.

Drive east to the top of Orem's 2000 North or Lindon's 200 South (one and the same) and turn left on Dry Canyon Drive (just before the road bends south). This street becomes a narrow paved road and ends at a paved parking lot at the mouth of Dry Canyon. Park here. Follow the trail between the cliffs.
