Fishy ad - possible stolen gear

Not sayin' it's stolen, just want people to take a look. There's also 2 ropes and some quick draws from the same guy.

I saw this earlier today and wondered the same thing.

16 cams for 1400$. winner! forged friends and loopless camalots yay!

The prices are high, and his English is poor. Probably stolen.

I would bet that this is stolen.

I don't see any correlation between those observations and the likelihood of the seller being a thief.

What an odd collection of old friends and C4s. All appear to be in new condition. If it were stolen it would probably be from a shop, can you still buy forged friends new? Definitely can't get new rigid stem camalots.

even if all the cam's were new the price wouldn't be much more

Really? Ya must be blind or oblivious then. Unrealistic prices and poor English, Im guessing spanish as a native language.... Sounds fishy to me, you must not spend a lot of time in Salt Lake City.

Actually, this seems more like somebody who dabbled in climbing trying to sell their hardly used stuff. They were gifted/bought some old friends, had some previous generation camalots, and a few c4's, and, now, they want to recoup every penny.

The main reason I don't think its stolen is that most climbers wouldn't have that type of rack in car to jack.

Anyway, as with any private transaction, if it seems fishy, ask for some proof of ownership and a bill of sales. I am happy when people ask me for this. I went to buy a new in package power tool from a guy, asked him to bring some proof of ownership, and he suddenly didn't want to sell.

I have lived in Salt Lake City long enough to know who is breaking into cars and stealing bikes and the majority of the time they aren't Mormon! But they will steal your candy.

For better or worse KSL has a problem with scammers, and one of the tell tale signs is poor grammar. It's not a race thing, it's reality. Does it mean this ad is a scam? No, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious either.
