I love this time of year. Temps are starting to drop, high pressure begins to set in, and the Reel Rock Film Tour holds it's annual contest. Check out this years videos here and vote on your favorites.

Hope to see some of you in Boulder on 9/15
Cheers

Did the top-rope video win last year?

Watched the Crash Pad video. I wouldn't recommend doing the same.

I watched 3 of them, I don't want to risk the disappointment of a fourth.

So bad

"Shut up! Fuck you! You fuckin dick! Always ney saying everything I create! You piece of shit, you create something like inward singing! You fucking shit you fucking sit in your tower...and fucking nap... what's funny? You fucking bitch!"

I think of that every time someone rags on someone else's work without offering anything up in return.

For all this nay-saying, I really enjoyed several of them. The ctd awareness and W.H.I.P.P.E.R.S. videos were amusing, and I enjoyed After 5 quite a bit.

Agree! I studied video for 2 years and know how much work goes into both shooting and editing. Wish I would of stayed with it, it's soo fun.

Yeah, and the criticism in the first reply is from a knucklehead that claimed I was spamming the forums by posting photos of the mountains. What a dork.

This happens with all forms of publication, entertainment, academia, etc... If you can't take the criticism don't put your work out there. Not to mention there was only a few slots. Not like everyone who has an opinion could get a video accepted.

I would agree with most, the submissions this year were not great. I think it was because the theme's were trying too hard to be funny. It is hard to contend with last year's winners, so maybe that is also skewing the reaction. I did like the Golden Ticket, but anything with Ethan Pringle crushing hard routes is probably going to be good. It also had some of the best videography.

Did anybody else watch the Lead Lesson One? Not sure how to put this gently, but what the hell was that Dad thinking!

wow, I hope he had some sort of hidden backup system but it sure as hell didn't look like it. Hey, my kid's wrapping the rope around his neck right before his climber falls, lolz.

The only video that made me chuckle was WHIPPERS. All of the others that tried to be funny were quite terrible. After 5 was the only one that made me want to see more, so that's what gets my vote.

And seriously...Lead Climbing Lesson One...and the award for worst parent goes to...! You have one kid leading it (and stepping over the rope so when he falls it's around his leg), and the other kid belaying...er... wrapping the rope around his neck, and the dad sits there at the top watching with a video camera?! I don't like being a safety nazi, but come on now...

It's not that hard to make a decent short, but you do need to put quite a bit of time into the process.

I've made some pretty decent pieces in under 48 hours, but each one helps refine the process more and more.

Rock climbing is a pretty tricky sport to capture well though. Biking, skiing, and even running, are often easier to capture in an interesting and aesthetic manner.

And, just to put a little money where my mouth is, here's a biking video that I worked on last year.

I did camera work, rigging, scouting, editing, &c, as did everyone else. 2 days of shooting and an 18-hour stretch of editing got it 95% done, and a few more editing sessions after that finished it off. It ain't perfect (Canon dSLRs just can't cope with fast motion or high dynamic-range situations, and the zipline setups were a work-in-progress) but it ain't too bad either.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
