tensleep questions

Hi all,
I have sometime and am thinking of going to Tensleep. I have never been there or anywhere in Wyoming - so...1) Is august a good time or is it going to be too hot? 2) Is it still as crowded as people were talking about in July? 3) I am going to go solo - is it easy to find partners? 4) Any route recommendations in the 5.11s?

Hey,
August in the shade should be fine. Other than the week of July 4th the crowds should be minimal. Finding partners might be tricky because there is no main hang but mondo is usually busy and climbers are usually friendly. As for 5.11's get the guidebook, there are only several hundred good to great 5.11s all over the canyon. Have Fun!

If it doesn't wind up working for you there, you can try Sinks Canyon and/or Wild Iris outside Lander- not crowded, but possibly a better chance of finding partners

August will not be too hot, temps should be Perfect! I've been in July 3x now and never found it crowded and I've never waited to get on a route there. You'll see a few people but nothing major. You may have trouble finding a partner I'm not sure really.

Wild Iris is up in the, well, wild, but Sinks is just outside of Lander... I seem to remember a bakery on the main drag there with cool folks and a bulletin board, but it's been a few years... there's a group on Facebook that puts on the climber's festival every July- if you hook up with them you might find a partner...

Wild Iris is a hard place to hook up with climbers. Sinks is too freaking hot that time of year. Ten Sleep has loads more climbs in the 5.11 range. And I am not just saying all this because I don't want my home areas to get (more) crowded.
