Looking for an experienced trad climber

I know I already posted this in the beginning climber section but I figured I might get some better feedback here. I have been climbing for just over a year and can sport lead 10b/c fairly confidently and can follow somewhere 10d/11a. I am really interested in learning to trad climb and would love to find someone who would be able to show me the ropes as far as placement goes and whatever else I need to know. I will try to make it more worth your while (beer money/lunches stuff like that) just let me know.

Thanks for all your help,
Giles

I'm relatively new myself and learned how to climb outdoors on sport routes. Trad appealed to me because I wanted more adventure. I couldn't find anyone to mentor me either and it sucks being a noob and not even knowing how clueless you are. I bought a book, "how to Trad climb" (scary I know) and learned about gear and how to build anchors. I started buying gear a piece at a time, whatever I could afford. Then I practiced placing gear at crags when I had down time. Traveled to leavenworth a lot and tried Midway as my first Trad climb and was hooked. I climbed as many multi pitch 5.6-5.7 trad climbs as I could to gain expierence and now consider myself, slightly less dangerous haha. It's fun and more personaly rewarding and potentialy a lot more horrific. I asked around and couldn't find any help learing either, in the end I taught myself and now get to climb with other more expierenced climbers and the learning never stops.

Good luck and go buy some nuts and start practicing placing gear

Giles- When I was at your stage (just starting to get into leading trad climbs), I spent a day with a guide, and it made a world if difference. Now is a perfect time to spurge on a single day with guide. It's amazing how knowledgeable they are, with all their training. As you know from your sport climbing experience, there are many idiots out there.

After a day with a guide 1) you'll get solid hand-on instruction that you probably won't find with anyone else who would go with you at this stage, 2) you'll be able to tell if your future partners are reasonably safe, and 3) you'll be able to climb safely with other folks who are also just learning the gear placement thing.

I'm not a guide; I just benefited immensely from one day with one.

Johnny g: thanks for the tip. I may do that, right now I can't really afford it since I'm in high school and just spent all my money on gear, but maybe soon in will try to do that.

Livin: I'm in Bellevue but I usually climb out in north bend

gskis, I live in North Bend and climb here all the time, high school is kinda young but I'll try not to hold that against you haha. I am NOT an instructor but I could probably get you started in the right direction if you want to climb sometime. It sounds like there is some ok Trad climbs at exit 47 I'm hoping to get on this week. Hit me up if you want to tag along, I've been teaching a couple of other youngsters the fine points of sport climbing.

Good luck, be safe

I'd love to if you're able to get away for more than just a weekend. It's too far a drive for just a weekend, for me.

My finger is feeling better (blown A2), and after the current heat wave I'm hoping it will be good enough for some adventurous trad climbing.

PM if interested, I'm not monitoring this thread

if you haven't already check out cascadeclimbers.com. for trad index can't be beat, and it's only an hour away. post something in the partner forum over there and you should be able to get out. If I hadn't already left for school I'd take you up some gear routes.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
