Schu , What is this LONG APPROACH BULLSHIT??????? First time I've heard of THAT !!!!! For you old friend .......... you can drop me off at the regular spot and then you can take my truck and go back 3 miles and hump from there if you please . I'll also give you the full rack to add to your pack . Just because I care .

I'm really not trying to lose more than a pound or two a week because I am trying to do this via sustainable lifestyle changes instead of any kind of dieting. That said, I think something like an every Monday or Tuesday weigh in with a goal of dropping a pound or two a week would be a great way to hold each other accountable - especially over a long period of time so we don't have any backsliders.

So:
213 on May 9
198 on July 10
aiming for eventual goal of 175. Heckle me mercilessly if I don't make it. I unfortunately have some good shame photos to post if I screw up.

I agree with this, 2 lbs. in a weeks time should be max.

I'm going with the 175 I weighed Sunday morning as my starting point for this week.

If you guys want to up the ante: start a Google Doc Spreadsheet. That way, you can update your workouts/weigh-ins all in one spot...If you haven't used them, google docs are documents that everyone who has access can share and view all at the same time.

My friends and I do resolutions every new years and write them in a gdoc. It adds a little pressure to have people looking at your progress and/or making more progress than you :)

Oh wait, you're a bunch of old farts too? Maybe I should start with: a 'computer' is kind of like a typewriter but without paper...

Kidding! Couldn't help myself :)

Good luck!
Adam

What happened to the line printer fanfolds and punched paper tape?

Allright you Old Fat F*cks! How did it go this week?

I didn't fare so well- was going great mid week at 173, thought I had it made. Worked out 3 days at lunch and went alpine on Pikes Peak Saturday. But too many beers and going out for some Mexican food after climbing yesterday canceled out my valiant effort. I'm going to keep up the good fight though, eating like a bird and jump rope at lunch.

So, here's my penalty picture - try not to laugh too hard....

Awesome penalty photo.

I'm down another pound to 197 - 16 pounds total from the shame highpoint. Feeling great and very stoked to be on track.

Sounds good to me, I'm in. Have to figure out somewhere to do the
pullups though. 174 yesterday morning.

I'll take that challenge Mike!

Went backpacking overnight sat and sun, down three pounds monday am!

(probably water weight, but it still counts, right???)

got my run in this morning before work - in spite of heavy legs from the hiking yesterday.

Oh, shit...I dropped my stack of punchcards on the way to the compiler room!!

Pushing 43, 5'10, 169#...down from 174# July 5th.

Since the holiday weekend, I've been keeping a food journal (Excel spreadsheet) with everything I've eaten and its corresponding calories. Having the data staring me in the face every day made it real clear how easy it is to blast through the average 2,200 calorie daily recommendation for an active male of my age/height/weight.

The steps I've taken so far:

1. Limit alcohol to the weekends only (Fri night-Sun night) and then a 2-drink limit.
2. Eat more whole foods (i.e,. raw blueberries) and less processed foods (i.e., blueberry NutriGrain bar).
3. Run 3X-4X/week (training for an Oct 2nd trail half marathon helps here).
4. Eat 5-6 meals/day. Small regular meals combined with a couple snacks.
5. Don't undo a week's worth of good behaviour by going ape-shit on cheat day! ;)
6. Stop getting take-away pizza (our family's regular Friday night ritual). Pizza is my weakness food -- I would routinely eat half a large pie myself -- so I just don't want it round the house.

Long-term, I wanna be at 160# and climbing like a beast!

(Hell, with my schedule these days, I'd be happy climbing at ALL...)

Nice suspenders there Mike, great photo!

I did pretty good this week, down 3 lbs. to 171. Got the 100 situps no problem, but nowhere to do pullups at the office. Just as well though, I was going to do 100 pushups instead but my shoulder isn't quite ready for that much strain. (did 30 on my Tuesday work out and it was painful) I'm going to lay off any upper body stuff for a few more weeks. The shoulder feels decent when I'm climbing on the weekend, psyched about that.

Any other success stories for this week?

Looks like it's just the two of us Mike - I liked your challenge from last week. Lets roll with that again. Lose 1 pound, 100 situps and lets throw in a minimum of 3 aerobic workouts before next Sunday morning.

52 years on the frame, and 142 lbs. down from a high of 158. My secret? The divorce diet, lose your job diet, unfortunate love affair diet, work 2 jobs to pay the bills diet.

I am in a pretty happy place right now and I wouldn't recommend losing weight the way I did, but it worked.

I'm loving this thread!

36+, just started gaining weight at age 35....was 160s from Jr. year of high school to 35. Now mid-180. I really need to do something. Life, work and kids are my excuse.

Keep up the good work you old f*cks!!

(but I gotta ask....since when was 36 "middle-aged"??) ;-)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
