I have the same problem Mike L., family in town and big ass BBQ party on Saturday. I'm not foolin' myself - It's gonna have to be July 5th for me and then it's game on.
Daily lunchtime workouts, less fatty foods & beers. That's at least a starting point.

I work on portion and crap control. 20 years ago I'd go at the ribs like an animal, now I just do a reasonable portion. Simply elimination garbage food goes a long way. But ultimately, I'm not sending world-class problems ever and life's just too short. Besides, I've seen what happens to people in nursing homes, hospices and just end of life misery in general. Living to be really old holds no interest to me.

OK Mike & Mike, I got it going today with the lunchtime workout. Got on the scale for the first time in a long time, it's worse than I thought! I'm 5' 7" and I clocked in at 178 lbs. Yea, I got some work to do.

Anyone look'n to sweat off a bit of the old spare tire, consider joining us to raise a Yurt above
Cactus Cliff. Just building the deck has me back to high school weight and I'm pushing 55.
In addition to beer, we're willing to trade future visits for a bit of help. We'll be up there from Friday the 15th through Monday the 18th. Hard work in the hot sun followed by star gazing from the hot tub and cold beers...
Pulling down in the wee hours of the morning with exclusive access to Cactus...

did I say beer, yup there will be beer.

Cheers from one crinkly old fart to the rest of ya.

Sure thing! How do these challenges of yours work? Whoever loses the most weight type of thing or what?

Kirk, I would love to help you out with the Yurt. Don't know for sure if I can get down there though. Let me talk with the wife & see whats going on that weekend. I gotta tell ya though, all the beer offerings you speak of will be counterproductive to the task at hand!

I'm in too. I had an awful work situation in Denver and coped by eating and drinking too much and not working out enough. Since I moved back to Utah two months ago, I cut the drinking way back, quit eating out more than once every two weeks, started eating veggies/hummus/fish/chicken/whole grains instead of burritos/pizza/bacon cheeseburgers, and i've been climbing or peak bagging 5 days a week.

I've dropped from 213 to 199 in the two months, feel better than i have in years, and since i've started exercising so much more i don't really crave the high cal comfort food much. Everything i'm doing differently is a lifestyle change and not a diet, and it has turned into enough of a routine that I think it should be sustainable long term.

I'd like to be down to 185 by September, and over time down to 170.

I'm in 196 on the dot this morning. I'm not sure the Jonas Brothers medley is a deterrent for me but we'll see how it goes! I will be 195 by Sunday.

I am probably one of the worst of the bunch! I was always 5'10" and around 170-178lbs but now since I've quit smoking I seem to have aquired a new eating habit. My weight has gone up to 220lbs. I was working out at balley's quite hard for awhile but when I got home I just ate more than ever. Part of the problem is, I lost my job over 2 years ago and have not been able to find the job that I want since then. Being depressed all day with not too much to do hasn't helped. Also being almost 56 years old and having a hard time commiting to getting myself back in shape to climb the way I once did. I no longer have the want to chase numbers because I know none of us will ever be totaly happy with any particular level of climbing. But with all of that said......I just cannot continue being the fat climber that I am, and will probably start going to balley's and work out almost every day for quite some time. All I have been doing recently is going to the rock gym and being embarrased about my weight while struggling toproping 5.9's. Maybe some day I will be able to reach the goal of leading a 5.10 outside when I am 60. :)

I'm pushing 42, 5'8" and 160lbs (weight as of yesterday). I've fluctuated between 165 and 175 for the past few years.

This past winter, I decided that I wanted to get in better shape for the climbing season, so I focused on simply working out on my home wall for 30-45 minutes 2-3 days a week with 1-2 days of after work/weekend warrior climbing outdoors. This has helped me get in the best shape of my life, and I'm climbing harder than ever.

As far as diet is concerned, I don't eat healthy all the time, but I try to stay away from junk food as much as possible. Reducing sugars and soda has been HUGE in keeping off the extra poundage. I will never give up beer just to climb harder...that's where I draw the line.

I'm in. Weighing in @ 210 (with 2 pints of Ben&Jerry's in the freezer)

For our camping trip a few weeks ago, my husband bought bags and bags of chips, which relieved me of the task of preparing as much food as I ought to have. Consequently, I am in the same boat as Darren; I could really stand to lose about 4 lbs. So, at age 52, 5'4", and weighing in at 122 this morning, I'll join the fray.

count me in - 5'10" and 177, 43 yrs old.

Been trying to run 3 mornings a week and get to the gym a couple of times. Biggest issue i have is staying motivated to work out and then trying to NOT go get a burrito or a burger when I don't get out of the office until 6:30 or 7:00.

Losing weight is cheating!!!! LOL....

rockandice.com/component/co…

I'm 46, and it takes some effort to stay slim damn-it-all! If losing weight was easy it *might* be cheating but b/c it takes EFFORT, even if its just 'closing your pie-hole', or remembering that spoonfull of metamucil in the evening ha ha, its effort, and IT IS NOT CHEATING!!

that's all;)

Im in and close engough to 30 to join.

29yo 6'2" and 228. Good goal would be 210 for now with long term 195.

I have used caloriecount.com in the past to help track food, water, weight, and activites. It really helps you track what you eat and your calories.

So when is the end date or next weigh in.
