Hey, I'm going to school in Santa Cruz next year; does anyone know good areas to climb up there? I've found a little bit of information on the area but not as much as I expected.
Castle Rock and Pinnacles are the most popular and best climbing around there. If you explore the Santa Cruz Mtns enough you will find hidden crags (off Skyline Blvd, north of Castle Rock).
Mike Morley wrote:Santa Cruz is somewhat of a vortex when it comes to climbing. As already mentioned, Castle Rock and Pinnacles are about it for day trips. Any major destination area (Yosemite, Lover's Leap, Donner, etc) is a 4-hr drive. On the upside, the surfing is excellent!
I do day trips to Yosemite valley from the Bay area all the time. Just leave when its dark. Its fun. Anyway, I too will be at UCSC for school in the fall, hit me up and we can lead in the gym, and if we get along we could do some real climbs too.
