Just wondering if anyone has checked out any bouldering around Mt Langley / Cottonwood Lake, there is currently nothing listed on this site for the area however I am just curious if anyone has more information on it.
I have been up there only once but quite a while ago and frankly don't remember, but I would assume judging by some pictures that there may be some potential.
I am basically looking for a relaxing place to go camping for the weekend and avoid the crowds. But some simple bouldering would make it even better :)
Just took my first trip up there two weeks ago, INSANELY beautiful. The area is definitely holding, but there is still 2-4 feet of snow on the ground in and around the lakes themselves! These last couple days of heat should have helped, but i'd give it a while.
Thanks for the info Peter :), I am looking to go probably mid July, from the looks of it would you say its worth hauling a crash pad up there? I am looking to stay the night at Cottonwood Pass Campground and hike in for the day.
I've been up there a couple of times, and there were definitely a lot of boulders, including some knobby ones that we did a little V-easy bouldering on. We were there to walk up Langley, so didn't think too much about it, but looking back there were definitely a lot of boulders to bop around on. I took a lot of photos of the Cottonwood Lakes area that you might be able to tell something from. There's some in this photoset and some (fewer) here
What a strikingly beautiful place. People always bitch about the hike in. I could never figure that out...it's a low price of admission to an idyllic Sierra locale.
While I don't remember much about the boulders, I do recall that after you get to the top of Army Pass and start heading toward the summit of Langley, there's a wall that looked like you could put up a couple of good single-pitch lines on it, if you were so inclined. In fact, I think that wall is in the background of this photo
There have been some recent FAs on the broken wall of Langley that you can see from the lakes as well. here's one
