Smart things other climbers have said

Yeah, we've all overheard people saying dumb and scary things at the crag.

Ever hear anything intelligent? Like, a tidbit of info or a piece of advice that made you pause and think, "hey, now that is useful to know."

Dish it. What's something cool you've learned from another climber that isn't in Climbing for Dummies or Freedom of the Hills (or maybe it is and highly overlooked). Whether it be for sport climbing, gear placement, aid technique, safety tips, speed climbing or training advice.

What words of wisdom have been instilled upon you that are worth sharing?

Smartest thing I've ever heard from my climbing partners is a fart.....

Always check your partner's knot. ALWAYS!

If you think it's worth skipping, read the Lynn hill book.

As we headed towards the Middle Teton, thinking it was the Grand, "hey...let's ask the people in this tent if that's the Grand or not".

OR (not climbing related but still while climbing)

"Dude, it doesn't matter how hot she is if she's batshit crazy. Good legs go away but bitchy jealousy is for life."

One that's always stuck w/ me, especially for those long days:

"Getting to the top is only half the climb."

Got this from Dan McDevitt during a lead climbing class at YMS. I was asking him about advice for becoming a better leader.

"Push your grade or push your pro, but don't push both."

Meaning, either push yourself on a harder climb with good pro or push yourself on a doable climb with challenging pro, but don't combine the two (new grade and crap pro).

"The best way to climb harder is to fall trying. And, the best way to overcome the fear of falling is to fall." - Many sage climbers

"Client safety is your first priority and a dead guide can't help anyone." - Eli Helmuth on the importance of protecting yourself when guiding

"At this point, it's safer to keep going up than to try going down." - The voices in my head

"Try going up." - Multiple climbing partners reminding me of the best (and, most obvious) way to get through a crux.

Sometimes moving quickly is the safest way. Told to me on my first alpine summit.
