I will be moving to Austria on Sept 1st and will be there til July 2012. I'm wondering if it will be worth bringing my climbing stuff.
I know no climbs are listed on this website for Austria, but I bet I will be checking out the neighboring countries like Switzerland and Hungary if I can find some people to go with. Anyone interested?

I'd bring your stuff. Austria is packed full of everything of every type of climbing imaginable and other countries are too close not to go to climb. Where will you be living? I'm occasionally in Garmisch and thats an easy drive/train to Innsbruck and the Zillertal Valley. Enjoy,
Owen

Thanks! I'll be living in Graz. If you know of anything cool to climb around there please let me know

Hello,

I live in Budapest and spent a couple of days climbing with a friend in Graz-Bergenland. There is definitely a lot of climbing in that area. We did some multi-pitch sport near right outside a town called Mixnitz and some really nice short sport routes at a crag outside of Andritz, which is very close to Graz. I don't know the name of the spots, but there are guidebooks specifically for that area.

If you're looking for a partner, sometimes I can travel to Austria for the weekends (depending on my classes). I wouldn't travel to Hungary specifically for the climbing, but if you wanted to check out Budapest anyways (which I recommend!), there are definitely a few places that could keep you busy climbing-wise for a day or two.

Hope this helps!

~Julie

Thanks Julie! I'm excited for Austria even more than ever now. Stoked to climb. And I will definitely be checking out Budapest!

I used to live in Slovakia, but visited my sister in Graz frequently, and got in with a good bunch of Austrians. One thing to consider is joining a local gym-- a great way to meet people. I've also climbed at some crags near Vienna with Slovak friends. . . always plenty of friendly people around, so if you can get out there, you should be able to meet partners! There are usually notice boards at gyms.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
