I already posted this on rc.com, but was wondering if you guys could help me out. Does anyone know how bad the approach conditions to the Petit are? My partner and I were thinking of heading up there next week and would really appreciate any beta. Thanks!

Do you enjoy skiing? As of Sunday there was still lots of snow on the ground at the Glacier Gorge parking lot.

If you decide to head up there, be careful. Avalanche danger is pretty high.

LOTS of snow on the approach and likely on the ledges low on the route. Skies a must. Good luck

That sounds super cold this time of year. I can't imagine how much snow is likely still on the climb itself, let alone the approach. Hardcore if you hit it up. (at least in my book)

Here's what it looked like when I was up there May 7th. If we get a some decent warm days (and no new snow) between now and your climb, you could probably make it in without skis or snowshoes. When I was up there this past Saturday, plenty of people were walking around without flotation. The trail is usually pretty packed up to The Loch, and then really wind scoured from Lake of Glass on up to The Petit. You'll want a nice early start to catch the snow when it is at it's firmest.

On Saturday of last week as you can see in my picture earlier in the thread....it was like January up there. Howling wind snowing like mad......at the valley before Sky Pond I sunk a 4meter probe pole and never hit the ground.......come back in a month....might be different conditions then........prob lots of mosquitoes though with all the moisture
