I've heard that the last bolt on Gaskin's last 5.8 pitch is gone. If anyone knows anything useful please post up. I'll likewise will stay in touch as I get more info.

Thanks!

Heard the same thing on Sunday. Party climbed on Saturday and said one bolt was gone/chopped.

It's hard to know what conditions should be nornal for P5 of the Gaskin finish on Groover. The notoriously-unreliable Select guidebook lists three bolts on this pitch (not counting the one at the belay at the top of the pitch), but there were only two bolts when my partner and I did it a couple of years ago. I would sure hate to think that one of those two is now gone; notwithstanding the 5.8 rating, this is a pretty hairy pitch that would probably deserve an R rating without at least the two bolts we found.

Now that is a friggin HILLARIOUS statement JL. You shoulda spent the 90's climbing with the Kelley book and some chicken scratched LK topos you got from a guy who knew a guy who copied them from some other guy that promised a dooby to the first guy and swore not to give them to any other guys unless they were friends with the guy. Last 50 or so routes I did in NC were 100% spot on with the select description. You should send any corrections you have to the authors and help to get the subsequent additions more accurate. I'll PM their info to you.

Tyler, I guess my remark about the Select guide was overly harsh. It's definitely a vast improvement over the Kelley guide and the LK miniguide that the CCC put out early on.

Not bad...high was 77 degrees...breezy, some sun and clouds...better than Sunset. The only place to climb right now that is close...Cashiers...and tolerable.
