BD Oz as a Racking Carabiner

Okay what do you guys think about the BD Oz as a racking carabiner? Right now I have been using hotwires on my draws and enjoy how easy they are to use due to their large size, but I have been racking two or three cams to a single oval wire. Now I am looking to rack a single cam to a single biner but need to cut some weight. All cost aside, what are your opinions?

I rack all my cams on their own Oz and have Oz's on all of my trad draws. I absolutely love them. They are noticeably lighter that Neutrinos. I have pretty big hands and have no issue clipping.

My friend uses the oz as his racking biner. I've used the rack a few times and I didn't have any issues getting the cams on or off the rack. It's small size wasn't a problem. I have the oz draws and they clip like any other wire gate (nicely). I say go for it. Light is right.

i used to rack on oz's & they are nice. however, switched to the slightly heavier & slightly bigger heliums and will never look back. they do cost more, but the wire gate keylock is really the way to go when racking cams. get a couple & try them out & you may be a convert like me. this is probably the only time i opted for something heavier than what i had been using.... although they are still a very light biner.

I wouldn't buy oz biners if you already have hotwires. Ain't worth the cost unless you have some use for the hotwires.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Oz's definitely sound like the way to go, I'll keep the hotwires on my draws for now and I'll order a bunch of Oz's this week.

I rack with oz biners and love them. In addition to the weight, they have a very narrow profile, meaning you can squeeze more biners on your gear loops. They clip very well and do not feel small (average size hands here).

All that being said, the heliums are awesome, but exceedingly expensive and not worth the price when other great alternatives such as the oz are out there...

Yeah i can't type fixed bad typo.

Yep i use the BD oz and i also use the BD hotwires...

Tip: if you have more that one cam of the same size. Clip the first one to your harness like normal. Then clip the second cam's biner to the 1st Cam's Biner. This make all crap we carry less bulky on the gear loops if your doubled up on sizes.

? The BD OZ is a completely separate carabiner to the BD Hotwire....Right now I am doubling up on carabiners and the only disadvantage is that if you drop it your losing two cams at that point in time. I have the BD Big Gun Harness and have never had any difficulty fitting a rack of doubles on there.

Has anyone been able to compare the BD Oz to the Petzl Ange? I recently got a few of the latter and I like them, but I have never used an Oz. (For racking cams, I still mostly use Neutrinos, because most of my cams are Camalots and I like the color coding.)

Did you pick the Ange locally anywhere brenta? I wanted to get two or a quickdraw to see how they clip, what they actually weigh, etc but I didn't really want to order 2 biners online.

Chris, I got them at Neptune's. I have one long and one short quickdraw with the Ange S at both ends (the only ones available so far, I believe). What I like the most is the snag-free design. At least as good as the Helium's. I still haven't used them enough to give a reliable assessment, but for its size, the Ange S has a respectable gate opening.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
