Beefing up the anchor with the gear Frank brought up. This is a short pleasant less than vertical step with thick ice. The only bit like it on the route. This is not an ice climb. It is a chimney climb with lot of snowy and icy bits. More scottish than classic San Juan ice climbing. More Eigerwand than Bridalveil. <br />Loose rock, down slopping holds, black, fragile weak rock that will explode when loaded with fall force. Having said that, I dare say this was one of the coolest climbs I have done in a long time.

1st or second pitch.Almost no ice just a little snow on the holds. Double ropes made it a little safer as there is pro on both sides of the 15 foot wide chimney. The belay is a huge ledge with a strange cornice on it. On the left where you see that yellow rock.

Frank got another photo of Eric about to start the only fat ice bit on the whole climb. Lean conditions to be sure, but warm weather and good company made for a grand adventure. Our very own kiddie sized Eigerwand. I have read that BBB is similar to the climbing on the ramp pitches on the 1938 route.
