Hi all!

Beanfest is *right* around the corner! This has been posted on Facebook and shared via word of mouth, but due to the Beanmaster's newness to MP.com, it hadn't made it into the forum.

If you're interested in going, please contact the Beanmaster (contact info in the Beanfest post below), and let him know what you can bring for the potluck and whether you'd like a shirt (or shirts). You can also RSVP via Facebook.

Hope to see you there!

Brigette

Thanks, Ryan. For those of us coming from Phoenix and Tucson, the detour isn't bad and adds only about 15 miles. Directions:

From I-10 east, take Exit 281 for 83 south
After about 25 miles, you'll come to a stop sign in Sonoita
At the stop sign, take 82 east (left) for about 35 miles
82 will dead end at 80
Turn right on 80 and look for Middlemarch road on your left

The Beanmaster's latest email about what's still needed for the potluck:

So we are a little over a week out and I have only four people who have committed to bringing food. This is a email to let everyone know what we still need and if you are able to bring something let me know what it is so I know what is covered then we will just go from there. This is what is being brought so far:

ME: a bunch of salsa left over from the last bean fest and 6 cans of re-fried beans.
Kevin T: 5lb pasta salad
Tanya: 4 pounds Bacon
Don: 10 dozen eggs
Louis: Salsa/ Tortillas

This is what we need hopefully:

3 heads lettuce x 2 people
3 pounds tomatoes x 3 people
2 pounds shredded cheese x 5 people
100 tortillas x 2 people
Beans/chili for 10 people x 4 people
1 pound guacamole X 5 people
4 pounds seasoned ground/shredded beef x 4 people
desserts to feed 20 x 4 people
8L soda x 2 people
Chips 2 bags X 3 People

Someone coming out on Saturday night ICE 10 pds.

Juice and soda options 1 gallons worth X 3 people

Wood x how warm do you want to stay or how long do you want the party to last????

2x 5 gallons pails with dish soap and water for a dish washing station x 1 person

Can someone set up an outhouse!!!???

HELP ME OUT IF I AM FORGETTING SOMETHING!!

Also The shirts are already in and I have the sizes I have so if you want a certain size and you are sure you are buying one let me know I am making a list but once sizes are accounted for I cannot guarantee you a shirt out at the Beanfest. Also if I don't get enough people to commit to a shirt before the Bean Fest there may only be one keg or no keg out there because all this stuff is expensive and I have no money so buy a shirt and help the beer fund. (If you do not want a shirt but want to help with the Beer fund let me know) I MAY NEED HELP WITH THE KEG! (transportation, etc...)

Thanks to everyone who is contributing I really appreciate it!!! If you want to bring something not on the list let me know!!

Sorry this did not make it on to MP.com earlier but remember that the MP.com user base is not representative of the majority of So. Az climbers. Hope you can make it to the potluck!

I'll be attending. Is there a consolidated list that has things that still need to be brought. Can we make this simple by someone simply telling me what to bring?

Thanks! I'm looking forward to the strongchise!

RJ: Wanna bring tomatoes or shredded cheese?

I will bring tomatoes and shredded cheese. I'm confused though, do I bring three pounds of tomatoes and two pounds of shredded cheese? Or do I bring 6 pounds of tomatoes adn 4 pounds of shredded cheese?

Does the "x2" designation mean that two people have to bring that quantity of that item?

Hey Ryan, you are correct, the "x2" is a request for two people to bring the suggested amount. If you'd like to bring both servings I am sure that Logan would greatly appreciate it.

Word of warning to all who are planning on going to Beanfest '11!

Tequila? Check
Tarp? Check

Okay, I'm prepared. If need be, we can fit about 30 in my 4Runner, right? ;)

The traffic on I-10 can be avoided by heading south on 83 into Sonoita then east on 82 to 80. This will put you about a mile and a half north of Middlemarch rd. It might take a little more time but its better than sitting in traffic and its a pretty drive. Its about 90 min. from Tucson.
um...sorry, didn't see the detour info above.

FYI - regarding road closure, I spoke to an AzDOT person who said they "thought" (hope, plan) the bridges would be re-opened at 7AM on Saturday. Check their website (above)

  • **Latest update:

OK SO I THINK WE ARE GOOD ON ALL THE FOOD ESPECIALLY LETTUCE SO IF YOU ARE BRINGING LETTUCE YOU DON'T HAVE TO BRING AS MUCH OR LESS LETTUCE AND SOME OTHER VEGGIES. WE COULD STILL USE MEAT BUT BEANS I THINK ARE COVERED . I AM NOT BRINGING MANY PLATES SO BRING YOUR OWN PLATE AND CUP! Also remember to bring more than enough water for yourself and your companions! A chair! Tarps and cordage and a stove! We still need:

Buckets and soap and dish towels for clean up!
Lanterns for the evening!
WATER for clean up!
Tinder for starting fire!
WOOD?!? (BRIGETTE DID YOU GET THIS FIGURED OUT?)- Got it, just need someone with a truck to help haul it down to Cochise.
Cutting Boards and Knives!!
TRASH BAGS AND CANS!
POTS FOR HEATING THINGS!

Anything else that might make you more comfortable!

I was the obnoxious guy sticking a camera in everyones face at Bean Fest. Finally finished putting together a short video of the day, and thought I would share. Hopefully it captures some of the spirit of the day, for those who weren't there or those whose recollection of the evening is a little fuzzy.

Anyway, enjoy. You can watch it in HD as well...
