No one has mentioned the cliff scaling scene in "The Guns Of Naverone" Greagory Peck and Anthony Quinn that one showed alot of exposure also.

Dave mentioned the MI2 scene at Dead Horse Point. It's my understanding that Tom Cruze actually did the climbing in that breath taking scene. Ron Kaulk was on site as his climbing coach, and the late and great Earl Wiggins coordinated the shot and rigged the stunt so that it was safe and fairly realistic.I thought it fit well with the theme "Mission Impossible".

Earl actually ran the Arriflex that was on the platform. People tend to not know how he innovated rigging. You know the big shots that are on the cable above the field that go from end zone to end zone on Monday Night Football? It's called the Spider Cam. Earl invented it.

And the favorite "Eiger Sanction" line of me and my old New England partner, Pano:
(said with a German accent)
"Good weather. Bad weather. Any weather is good for climbing."

+1

Without question, this movie does a better job at portraying climbing during that period than most. A couple of scenes made me squirm....

Still my favorite climbing movie. I was pretty much alone in the theater back then to see it, as it didn't draw a big crowd in the Chicago theaters.

Here's a cool site that has every single location used in the film completely dialed. Even camera angles are discussed. A must see for "Eiger Sanction" fans.

that site is beyond cool, it's almost creepy how much they have there about the film, frame by frame. Very nice for Eiger fams.

How has nobody mentioned "Vertical Limit" as the best climbing movie. Thats where I learned how to do dynamic cam placments.

Dynamic cam placements are for sport climbers

I've seen it and its worth a watch. For climbers, the most notable thing is their proficiency and efficiency. It also has some interesting sub-plots about the brothers personal dynamics.

I really like Nordwand. It's a little over-dramatic here and there, but the way the climbing is filmed is great and Kurz/Hinterstoisser's banter as climbing partners was entertaining.

Looks like lots of "Eiger Sanction" folks like me, I of course have a copy, but no one I think has mentioned a film I got for Christmas "North Face", a German film done period style about Toni Kurz and Andi Hinterstoisser's attempt on the Eiger very good film, the scene with Toni unbraiding the rope with his teeth, arm frozen are quite gripping. I thought attention to detail as to climbing scenes was spot on.

Nordwand' is the same film as North Face,,,it was mentioned earlier..and is definately the best real looking film made in many years.
