So I may be late to the party on this magazine, my mom just delivered it to me from home but I saw something that caught my eye as peculiar.

On page 66, it looks as if the climber is still clipped directly into the belay as she's climbing off of it via a sling coming over her left leg. Anyone?

No mention of any of the new plethora of BD biners except the Gridlock?

haha i noticed the same thing the other day and was discussing it with a buddy. Not having it in front of me and going by memory it almost looks like she is at the belay clipped in and just climbed up to pose for the shot. Pretty dumb since she is clipped in with a sling (if my memory serves me right) which is static and would be far from ideal if she were to fall onto the anchor while posing. We came to a few possible conclusions but i can't really remember what they were. Glad I'm not the only one that looks at the details in all the shots. I love catching things like back clips.

ha. I noticed that too and had a good chuckle. That gridlock does look pretty sweet though. I ordered 2 almost right away.

Yup, that looks like blood in the urine waiting to happen. I actually think its a poor shot in general.

The picture that got me is the one of the cordalette package that access fund sends out. I think its sterling ropes. It's a picture of a trad anchor and the angles are probably 120 degrees.

Sounds like this can be a whole post in itself...pictures of "bloopers" found in magazines and Ads

I did too and noticed a problem with them. The instructions show that you can use a grigri from either the small or large side of the gridlock, with the other side being used for the belay loop. This is a problem. with the belay loop on the smaller side and the grigri on the larger side, the carabiner can accidentally crossload still due to the hole of the grigri jamming up against the curve of the gridlock. This, combined with the gridlock's weaker cross-axis strength makes for possible bad times.

ave not tested this with my cinch or a grigri2 yet.

That's not the only thing funny about that photo. It also looks like her left foot is on the anchor bolt. Hence the caption: "caught flat-footed." Hah-hah. We surmised that she MIGHT have had the anchor sling draped over her leg as she started up the stemming moves, and thus it looked like she was still clipped in to the anchor, when maybe she wasn't. We do know this: Hazel Findlay is quite capable of climbing that hard, so posed or not, it's a climb she was really trying to do. But, yeah, we laughed too.

Thanks for reading!

(not sure about posting pics from the magazine. Let me know if it's not kosher so I can delete them immediately if that's the case)
