Though this topic has been sufficiently covered in the past, I feel the need to reiterate on the issue.
For the love of all that is graceful and sentient - we must watch our levels of douchery when it comes to climbing. This sport, lifestyle (whatever you wish to call it) is a grand blessing bestowed upon our privileged selves. Why muck it up with hostile opinions, blatant disrespect to others and toxic arrogance?

Any climber I've ever met has been nothing but friendly.

The internets is not the real world.

I don't know what demon caused you to post this, but I'd have to agree that I've never met a douche of a climber. Internet interactions aren't real.

The term "douchebaggery" was invented on this site, on one of KC's epic flame-out threads. He even paused and noted what a great word that was.

ah, the days of twenty page per minute rational irrationality punctuated by intermittent races to the top of the next page posts with blank and seemingly eternal return key strokes; until those with elementary math skills finally figured out the pattern to make the next page.

Sounds like Amanda got burned by some climber dude. The only real time I have a problem with other climbers is when they violate the "Leave No Trace" Policy. Pick up your smokes and your used tape at the crag, thanks!

I always thought the correct term was "douchebaggery." Don't leave out the bag in douchebag.

How have you been Amanda? Nice to see you visit.

Umm, no, it wasn't. Don't flatter yourself, you're maybe 5 YEARS behind the curve on that one.

Say what you will about Amanda's subject matter over the months, but I find the topics and resulting banter very entertaining. This gave me a laugh this morning. A very good thing.
A poster on a previous thread spawned this quality soliloquy:

"Your aristocratic lexicon is a passive aggressive insertion of your intellectual superiority, and I find it odious. Stop picking on my bantam sized vocabulary and idioms."

C'mon, you can't get that just anywhere.
Classic.

There are definitely plenty of douchebags in climbing. Usually insecure climbers who think they are really good and want you to know they are good by offering you beta on any climb they've done that you haven't. Not to mention the out and out sbowoff. We are all guilty of these things sometimes, but the douches are the ones who do these things all the time.

Well, maybe then the mental midgets among us need a translation. Let me help by re-writing the OP in laymans terms:

Original:Though this topic has been sufficiently covered in the past, I feel the need to reiterate on the issue.
Translated: Many have whined before me, but I will whine some more.

Orig: For the love of all that is graceful and sentient - we must watch our levels of douchery when it comes to climbing.
Trans: Stop being an asshole while climbing, it hurts the ballerinas, ice skaters, and swans but only if they're not passed the fuck out from too much PBR.

Orig: This sport, lifestyle (whatever you wish to call it) is a grand blessing bestowed upon our privileged selves.
Trans: I'm feeling some trustafarian guilt right now, how about you?

Orig: Why muck it up with hostile opinions, blatant disrespect to others and toxic arrogance?
Trans: My truty angst has me down, so don't harsh my mellow.

Orig: Deliver your thoughts with love in your hearts. When the intention is pure, the expression will follow. Reception will (hopefully) likewise follow.
Trans: I read a Thich Nhat Hanh book once and it had some similar babble, so I'll put this in to sound all Zen and shit.

My stellar vocabulary and extemporaneous wit often lulls my contemporaries to the false conclusion that I am a sophisticated intellectual. And shit.

Thank you for a short, and thoroughly hilarious addition to this otherwise pointless thread. Cheers Douches!

You know, rockclimbing.com has a much more respectful, welcoming committee. You might fit in better over there.

"El Douchery" - is that Spanish for ... "The Douchery"?

Respectfully disagree on the translation of "d-bag" to "Asshole". I don't think you can use the terms interchangeably. E.g., all d-bags are assholes, but not all assholes are d-bags. Thoughts?
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
