Rope Bags

So, for those of you that use rope bags whats the deal?

At the bottom of a pitch you have your rope stuffed, so that it feeds easily. Are you carrying a second bag while you climb so that when you get to the top you can stuff the rope as your pull up your line? Or are you pulling up the line, gear and bag, then putting the rope in the bag? I figure if your using rope bags, your not moving too fast anyways, but boy that seems slow. (having to pull up the line and then stack it in a bag.

I like the idea of a rope bag, but I don't get how to use it without killing loads of time.

I have found a rope bag really helps keep the rope clean, which reduces abrasion. The kind that unfolds into a tarp work best for me. You just flake the rope onto the tarp, wrap (some have compression straps) and go. Best with cragging. However, I don't use for alpine rts....another level of complexity I don't want to think about....

whoops! Wasn't paying attention, sorry 'bout that...

only for cragging, multipitch they get tied onto the bag. Didn't realize this was in the big wall forum, no opinion there sorry.

I use a rope bag while soloing. IMO there is no other way to solo. It only takes 1 snag to eat up more time than the rope bag eats up. But while you are soloing your not going fast anyway...

I have used rope bags while with partners but only if we are planning on slow accents on harder aid. I only bring one. If I'm climbing on harder stuff we are tagging stuff so I just tag the rope bag with the hauling device. While soloing I bring it with me after releasing the haul bags.

On easy faster stuff I don't use rope bags. So it all depends if I'm doing 2 pitches a day or 6...
