STOLEN - Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero down parka - Bay Area/Santa Cruz

I recently purchased an Absolute Zero Parka (red and black) for an upcoming Denali trip. It was delivered to my door (in Santa Cruz) and before anyone could bring it in it was picked up by a stranger who ran off with it in its package. My neighbor witnessed this but couldn't catch the dude. Basically I'm asking anyone who lives in the Bay Area to let me know if they see a dubiously out of place parka for sale at a swap meet, garage sale, online, etc. When it was shipped it had blue and yellow electrical tape on the hood draws. I know it's a long shot but it's worth a try. I'm also offering $100 to anyone who can help return it to me. Thanks for your help.

If you didn't sign for it.... then it was not delivered. Contact the dealer (whoever you bought it from) or the shipping agent (hopefully UPS).

Pain in the ass, but you might (*might) see a replacement.

Actually already tried that... There wasn't a signature required and the usps has a record of it being delivered =\

But as that isn't YOUR fault, I wouldn't just call it a day. It's the shippers fault for sending a $500 jacket without requiring a signature or getting insurance.

Not to put the onus strickly on them, but I don't send expensive stuff without getting some insurance.

Did you buy in private party of from a company?

If you bought it private party you're likely SOL. When I ship to buyers, I always use delivery confirmation and consider the sale done when the package is delivered. But, I'd report it as stolen to the police and see if you can get homeowners/renter's to cover it.

If you bought from an established company, I'd call them and see what they have to say. I got an REI packaged lifted from a college apartment mail room and they replaced it no problems.

Don't just give up on it. At least file a police report so when you see it for sale on craigslist, you can nab it back. That jacket is a limited interest item, meaning the person who jacked it will likely try to sell it. Cruise ebay, craigslist, this sight, and local selling venues.

Sorry for the bad luck,
Evan

Thanks for the advice guys.

A little more information:

I bought the jacket from a person on this site. The package did not require a signature and was not insured (if I had thought to ask and make sure it DID have these I would have, lesson learned).

I have filed a police report and talked with the USPS (who were no help, big surprise there). I've been checking craigslist and ebay fairly obsessively. I went to a local swap meet 2 days after it was stolen to look for it, unfortunately did not see it that day or the next. I did however hand out some fliers to several of the employees there offering a $100 reward, so maybe I'll get lucky. I'm thinking about printing fliers and putting them up around town though I don't have time atm.

Any other ideas of places to look?

I don't know that this is your jacket, but it looks like the seller is a fairly new one.
