How does a respectable dirtbag living with no physical address deal with the fact that someone has stolen my account # and all my dirtbagging savings for the next year?

Hunt them down like the animals they are.

Talk to your bank.

Thats the first thing to do. They have whole departments setup to deal with these types of things.

Many banks even have some sort of coverage.

Anyway, sorry that it happened. It is terrible when you are in the middle of nowhere, don't have resource to deal with the situation, and are stuck because you have no money.

I had my backpack with all my belongings stolen in Hawaii.... later found out they went to an ATM and emptied my bank account as well. I had to file a police report and bring it to my bank, which started a process of them finding the picture from the ATM, etc. Had to sign a form saying i did not know that person, got all my money back, minus $50. took about a month. Sorry man, keep your head up.

Did you have your pin number taped to the back of your card or something??

Someone withdrew $600 with my ATM card in Russia last summer. It was strange because:

1) I've never been to Russia,
2) My ATM card was in my wallet, and
3) The pin is scratched into my memory and written nowhere else.

Some thieves are very skilled at what they do. I've learned to cover the keypad with one hand while I enter my key with the other.

I contacted my bank (Wells Fargo) and they reimbursed the money immediately with the caveat that they would take it back if their investigation concluded that I was at fault (obviously that wasn't the case).

So if you bank through Wells Fargo, all it should take is a simple phone call.

The way they do it is install a reader on the existing ATM that registers ALL keystrokes including your pin.. Nice! Then they sell your info to syndicates that send your info overseas - that way it takes 3 - 7 days for it to register.

Crap....they say it is so easy for thieves as well. With just a few numbers of your social they can recreate the entire thing due to how the numbers are set up or something.

You'll get your money back but it'll take a few weeks. The bank needs time to process your claim.

um..."respectable dirtbag" can those words be used in the same sentence? I think your street cred just got elevated because you're seriously dirt bagg'n it until the bank clears your claim. Seriously though, Good luck!

That happened to me here in Vegas a couple of years ago- A thousand dollars was withdrawn from my B of A account from an ATM that I had used that week- my debit card was in my possession the whole time, and I've never given out my PIN to anyone. I immediately called my bank and went to the B of A where it happened, and they took care of it for me; My bank credited back the amount stolen from my account right away even before they started their investigation. It reportedly turned out to be an organized ring of Eastern Europeans that made off with millions from ATMs in Vegas.

Good luck with getting your money back in your account.
