Crazyclimber wrote: I saw the picture you posted. Not only did you not think before you posted you did not think before you acted. As a devout Christian I find you actions deplorable and shameful. There is nothing worse then someone who hides behind their faith as a cover for the actions they do. I am motivated to write in because the jihad is a muslim ideal and any Christian that aligns himself with these beliefs is insulting the Lord. As a Christian you should hold yourself to higher ideals then this. By representing yourself as a holy warrior executing violent acts in the name of God you show that you have forgotten what your entire faith is based on. You are equaling your power with God. God is the only person who can judge another. To the man who uses a holy symbol as his avatar for this site, you should not only know better but act better. God demands you worship none other then him and by dressing up and acting this way, you insult him. The jihad follow a God that is much different then ours. You should have been a better man then this. Treating others with love. Philippians 2:3-4 says, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." I would not expect this from a fellow Christian. If the above quote is an attempt to apologize for your actions, I am ashamed. For you have lost much more then just a few abrasive threads, you have lost your way into something much darker. There are many tasteless jokes posted on this site but none that disgrace my faith and other Christians as much as your actions. You should spend a little more time in church then at the crag and review what your really are made of…as a son of God.
Because, you know, every single Christian needs to be every bit as devout as all the rest.

Once again the blinders of the hypocrapfull zealot prohibit a rational discourse.

I am an active and practicing Christian and I too find that people who say they are Christians and then don't act accordingly hypocrites. JIMBO- This is not funny. They make us, who try really hard to be good people look bad just like members of the jihad make all Muslims look bad. Religion is not a cover for bad behavior. Confession does not make everything go away.

"Because, you know, every single Christian needs to be every bit as devout as all the rest.
This guy does not have to be as devout " This guy does not have to be as devout but if I place the fish symbol on my car or as this guy has used it I should practice more closely then others.

Most Christians would condone his action of dressing as a jihad. He represents himself to you as a more devout Christian then most by using the fish symbol. I guess Crazyclimber intended to remind him how his behavior has strayed from the Christian way. We all need a little reminder, maybe not so flamboyant (but that seems to be the way on this website---maybe it should be moderated by women!!!!)....so please lets have a rational discourse.

Mr. Davidson wrote: "The removal of a physical social context tends to let us run away with our first thoughts (knee jerk) and treat others as pixels on a screen rather than as fellow humans. The ease with which we can type and press send creates a community rife with ADHD types in which the Frontal Lobes don't do their job of governing our outbursts.Of course there are simple remedies for this; thick skin and deep breaths come to mind. "Seems like your last post could not follow your own suggestion. By calling CrazyClimber a "hypocrapfull zealot" you certainly used no attempt at " rational discourse". Way to lead the way.

What about this Christian guys actions are OK?

I would like to thank all the christians that posted on this thread for demonstrating that organized religion inevitably degenerates into a morass of hypocrisy and condemnation. Considering that such a large amount of christianity's doctrine is based on love and forgiveness, I find the posturing and judgmental nature of the folks on this thread (and most christians) to be incredibly sanctimonious.

Keri,
I am a devote Atheist, so making fun of Christians, Jihadist Catholics, Jews, or Muslims is, for me, no different than making fun of the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus.
I don't believe in a God or the whole Jesus myth. So you need take no offense from me for laughing at your religion.
If you want to believe in God and some religious dogma good for you, just don't expect me to.

Huh – lots of new accounts lately! I must agree that seems a little fishy. :)

What also seems odd is that people describing themselves as devout, practicing Christians are not approaching “a fellow Christian” (who they claim has slighted them) in the manner that Jesus himself taught (Matt 18:15-17). I would imagine a truly devout, practicing Christian be aware of this as it’s in the first book of the Bible detailing Jesus’ teachings. Certainly it would be hypocritical for any Christian to call out another Christian for not being devout enough, yet in doing so ignore Christ’s direction on how to do so.

As has been wisely suggested earlier in this thread, I am skeptical of brand new accounts that pop up and immediately criticize others. Interestingly, yet another such account was created to comment on the “Tucson crag recommendations” thread suggesting that I would try to delete comments that are critical toward me. This seems like an orchestrated ruse.

Just in case it’s not, let me be clear: I don’t give a crap if someone thinks I am imperfect in my spirituality. That’s between me and God. I have no interest in meeting other people’s religious criteria, and for sure won’t be defending my faith on a rock climbing forum.

And for the record, I think God loves Muslims and Christians alike.

Thanks Jimbo, Andrew, Tim, NC Rock Climber, Paul, Crag Dweller, Ben, TDog, Alex, Marcy, and jbak for your funny and insightful posts. I enjoyed reading them.

Good points Geir

I really like this guys take on the whole my religions better then yours BS dogchurch.org/index.shtml

I also agree with the whole new accounts=fishy

Recently we got spammed over at TucsonMTB new user posting religion all over the place. He had his account deleted but the moderator left the post up so we could have our little discussion.

Here's one post that I liked.
I always thought you could really tell the spirit of a person by how they are with dogs.

Watch a person who is mean to dogs, and see if they aren't a piece of crap as a human being.

The "Book of Enoch" has a part where it actually mentions the souls of animals and how they tie to us.

In the Secrets of Enoch 58:7 we read:
"And as every soul of man is according to number, similarly beasts will not perish, nor all SOULS OF BEASTS which the Lord created, till the great judgement, and they will accuse man, if he feed them ill."

I didn't look at any of the original links as I wasn't interested in any unsolicited religion. I did enjoy hearing from some of the folks I do know. This netscientia.com/god_spell.html has some interesting info a little far out there but I did like this one quote. "I think that if Jesus, Ezekiel and Muhammad were around today, they'd light a joint and get into a heavy discussion on how incredibly stupid we humans are for totally missing the point from which they tried to convey. And, I think they'd all be rather pissed off that we still kill one another in their name."

I don't care much for organized religion aside from the whole killing each other in the name of god thing it seems at a lot of them are all about the $.

I like this response I got to that.
I'm with AZTtripper on the organized religion thing. Seems to me that any time someone asks for money to save your spiritual soul, then you should run away from them quickly.

Also it seems that a lot of people like to use religion to justify what ever they want to. Like the line from the Mayor of Superior about the god given pocket of ore. That was from the Queen Creek thread.

Should this topic be renamed?

A couple guys were out fishing with jesus and they forgot the net. So jesus jumps out of the boat and walks back to shore to get it. All went well.
The next day someone asked how the trip went the reply was:
caught a few, it was fun. And hey, did you know jesus cant swim!?

Jodie I have known you a long time but you have gone too far, this is crazy! Gier is a great guy. He does have his issues, as do we all. If being a Christian is having strong morals and values then Gier I think is a pretty good one.

Gier dressed up like a Jihad because he has a sense of humor. The people (I won't even call them Muslims) who are Jihadist are nutty radicals and don't represent any faith but crazy.

If you have a problem with what Gier did, question his climbing ethics and not his faith nor his personal relationships. I don't agree with everything Geir does or believes in, but he is my friend and a damn good guy.

This is a forum about rock climbing. Let's keep it that way. We are all adults and should be able to address each other civilly and without groundless, spiteful personal attacks.

If those involved cannot do so,then I ask respectfully that the administrator close this forum down as it's gone too far.

Can we make it stop now??? PLEASE make this thread go AWAY. C'mon Southern Arizona you have beautiful weather now. Go outside, and enjoy. I know, I was there for eight years, and lived on Mount Lemmon for many years before it went up in flames.
P.S. Yes I lost my house in that fire, and moved to Colorado!!!

Unfortunatly there really is no God so the only ones we have to blame for all the stupid people is us.

There is just no excuse for some peoples's stupidity. But I understand that they can't help themselves.

Joe- I am glad you know Geir so well that you know that he has strong moral values and speak with such conviction for him. Geir even goes from being a "great guy" to being a "damn good guy" in just a couple of sentences. Unfortunately, you prove that you probably are not the best judge of his character and don't really know him that well because you don't even know how to spell his name right.

Geir- I want to alert you to this this new account by Joe G. Seems he just signed on, kinda fishy hey? Or maybe he knows you so well because he is you!!! ALIAS ALERT, ALIAS ALERT!!! Oh wait, Joe writes good things about Geir, he likes you so his post shall not be questioned.

Southern Arizona has lost credibility. You guys are a bunch of FOOLS(cyber climbers). I'm glad I don't live there anymore.
