whats the best pants for climbing?

Megalith!

Too bad they don't make them anymore. Nice pockets, elastic cuffs, big elastic waistband, heavy duty cotton fabric construction, gusset crotch, and an upside down zipper.

Something with room for the boys- anytime I wear non-stretch fabrics, and the leg loops pull up, things suffer. It' really is motivation not to hang or fall, I guess.

Walmart jeans....they are like $12 a shot so you don't get all pissed off when you blast a hole in the ass from doing too many sit starts.

I like something that allows full range of motion. I do quite a bit of extreme stemming and I find the right pant is imperative, the difference between sending super tuff and going home disturbed and angry.

If you are in the Prana price range, I think a much better product is the Stonemaster climbing pant.

Stonemaster is owned by Mike Graham, one of the original Stonemasters and more recently of Gramicci fame. Mike is the "discoverer" of the gusset for climbing pants, and he knows how to do it better than anyone. He sold Gramicci and now does just a small line of superb climbing pieces.

Note: these are for temperate-climate rock-climbing. For cold, wet, or snowy conditions the much pricier softshells are the way to go.

Disclaimer: I have no interest in the business, but I do own three pairs of the climbing pants and two pairs of the jeans, which have become just about the only thing I wear except when I have to dress up.

I will let you in on a little secret... chords are the greatest things ever!!! a lot of chords come made partially of spandex! get these!! they are very durable and don't get dirty as easily. they are all i climb in! get some from your local thrift store/savers/DI.. but make sure they have spandex!

Anything that's all nylon will be really durable. Some are even reasonably priced.

I climbed in these for a year before they got their first hole:

After 2 years, they're now about 10% ripstop repair tape.

If you want to go with jeans, I love my Royal Robbins Nox jeans. They stretch and breathe. No wear issues yet. Picked them up for $28 after coupon from STP

Is this thread for real? Did it really make it 3 pages over pants?

Dog forbid we get accused of not helping out the new guy, just kidding.

I saw this mentioned early on but 1+ for thrift store loose fitting anything works I usually go for some kind of dress (non cotton or blend) pants. Roll the legs up while climbing put them down for bushwacking.

anything thats durable and cheap for cragging ... no need for any special pants unless yr going for that "climber" look

for the longer run ... something durable, still cheap, but with DWR like a softshell/nylon pants/shorts for those times you get caught out in the rain ...

put it this way ... you wont climb any better with the latest prana or dead bird pants, than in a pink bikini thong at the crag

you may however pick up more girls ;)

Sure did! People love voicing their opinions and for that, I thank them. Let's go for a fourth page.

Royal Robbins Jeans. I actually have been trying not to use them as much as I'm afraid to wear them out!! Best jeans I've ever bought.

I got them at the pants store...

Personally, I prefer climbing in ugly pants...

And by some coincidence, ugly pants are inexpensive

I love my prana stretch jeans, but I always rip the pockets out way early.
