Crampons for Trangos

Hey everybody, I need some advice. I bought a pair of La Sportiva Trango last season, love 'em. Now I want to pair them with some new crampons. So, question; What crampons make the best fit with my boot?

Was previously wearing LL Bean Speed Guides with BD Contact. The LL Beans just kind of discintigrated on me last year so I replaced 'em with the Trangos. And althought I like the Contacts, they dont fit my new boot as well and were kind of a pain in the ass last season.

I'm willing to spend a little more on a new pair of crampons than I did on the Contacts and have been looking at the Grivel models. I do quite a bit of easy/moderate alpine and peak-bagging and very little vertical ice(U-Notch, V-Notch, St Jeans, ect).

Any advice would be appriciated.

take your trangos to a mountain shop and fit the crampons before buying. then you won't get hosed. I think the petzl and grivels should mount up nicely.

Davi, did you post up on Spadout a couple days ago about this same question? I ask because I answered a similar question over there on their forum. On that question it was difficult to narrow down an answer because the OP didn't mention an application/objective use for the crampons. Here with this question it's a bit difficult not knowing which Trango boots you are talking about - there's a big difference in crampon fit and functionality range between the flexible Trango S and the rigid Trango Extreme. Which model do you have?

And when you reference the U-Notch and V-Notch as climbs you do on occasion, are you talking about them in their summer snow condition or in the late fall when they're legit ice?

I have the Trango Evo`s and I paired the Petzl Sarkens with them for the last 2 years. Haven't had any issues with them yet

@Kevin-That is ultimately my plan, but I wanted to reach out to the community first, get some feefback, make me a smarter shopper, THEN go drop the loot in my local shop.

@Eric-Nah that wasnt me on Spadout, but thanks for the link to the discussion. I exert pretty much all my alpine efforts in the Eastern Sierra, I listed the U-notch as an example of the type of routes I go after, which are common in the Eatside. As far as the season goes, Im there late spring/early summer. Its hard to get out in the late summer/early fall for some REAL ice climbing 'cause I coach a club soccer team and our season starts mid-August. Though Im considering a late season run at Mendel/Darwin maybe next year. So I'm looking for something general purpose with the option to front point if I need to.

I own the LS Trango S EVO GTX.

You definitely want to try out the crampons with the boot to make sure they fit, as your foot size is probably a bigger factor than the specific make of boot.

For example, Grivel crampons don't seem to work with my foot size... I've tried both G12's and G14's with my two different pairs of boots and they just wouldn't fit well.

Petzl Darts and Sarkens fit great.
