I'm headed to Cochise on Dec 17 and am in need of a partner(s). I'm 25, have a decent rack, can lead 5.10- and follow 5.11 on better days. Haven't been able to get out in a while and I am really looking forward to it. Thanks.

I'm heading west tomorrow night. I'm on my way to Bishop but the forecast is calling for rain and snow this weekend up there. So I'm planning to drag the drive out a little longer. I was thinking of maybe stopping in Cochise. I have a rack but wasn't going to bring it. I can throw it in though if need be. Would anyone have enough gear and be willing to let one climb on it? I would probably be ready to climb friday morning as well. I have led up to 5.9 trad and 5.12 sport. I've only been to the east side of cochise. Will yall be on the west side?

I'll be climbing at Cochise after xmas day. Probably head out there on the 26th and planning to climb a week or two. I'll be looking for partners. Will any of you still be around the area?

I'm looking to head south to some warmer climates, probably for the month of Jan. I'm kicking around the idea of a few destinations right now, mainly cochise, but also Jtree or red rocks. I've only spent a short time in Cochise, but it seems like the best place to stay, long term. Just wondering if anyone here will still be there and where. I'm not too familiar with the place, but seems like the west side would be the place to meet up with people. Is there a camp ground on that side or an area that people ususally meet up? JTree is just awful! I'm eager to book to Cochise. I hope someone is on the east side because that's where I hear the trad is.

I've just been told to stick to the west side.

Hey Joe. Directions to this "west side" would be useful. Thus far I can only find some amorphous area NE of Tombstone on, MAYBE, North MiddleMarch Rd, which stretches for MILES so I have no idea where my destination is.

I have the backcountry climbing book downloaded, but not printed out, so it's very confusing.

I'm also a bit concerned about driving around in my van.

If you approach from the south on Middlemarch your van will do fine. Approaching from the north is a little rougher, but probably carefully doable in a van.

Head south on 80 toward Tombstone, take a left at Middlemarch rd. Drive north on Middlemarch for ~10mi and take a left at 687. There is a big national forest sign right at the turn onto 687.

From there you will be able to see Sheepshead, the big dome off to the right (north).

If you follow 687 further NW there are multiple pull-outs to the right for camping.
