Hey Everyone,

I'm a climber from the midwest and I'm going to be out in DC this summer working somewhere for some kind of internship with Politics and the Middle East (I'm a Poli Sci/Middle East Studies student who speaks Arabic). I talked to my friend Sasha and she told me the nearest gym is ONLY one hour away. Well, without a car, that hour is going to be painful. Is there a climbing community within DC that I could hitch a ride with maybe? Its a bit ahead of time, but I'm just curious what the community is like around DC.

Thanks!

Earth Treks Rockville is accessible from the Metro red line. Easy to get to from within DC.

Okay, well I should clarify, one hour by metro. I guess if there are some closer that would be good to know, but I checked out Earth Treks and it sounds like the closest one is in Rockville. How long does it take to get to it from say the Georgetown area? I just thought it was a long ride.

I guess Sport Rock in Alexandria isn't far, but it still sounds like it will take a while to get there via public transportation?

Keep the input coming. I guess its because I asked a pro climber and took her word that she maybe she told me the best place and not the easiest to get to? How much does a metro ride cost? I've gotten emails from a few people wanting to know what beta I come up with, so I appreciate help.

Hi Mark - pm me when you get to DC. There's a pretty good sized DC climbing crew - lots of ice trips planned this winter and getting to the gym is not that bad really. from georgetown, rockville is not awfully far. bikeable even

Mark,
Check out Potomac Mountain Club dot Org. Its a club centered around DC that gets together to climb outdoors and inside. They've got a list serve with tons of local beta too.

The Sportrock gym in Alexandria is only 2 blocks from the Van Dorn metro stop (blue line).

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
