Sorry if there's been a thread about this already, but it's been a few years since climbing at rumney since moving to CO. Ill be back in june for a few days to get some climbing in.

Used to camp up in campton at the (state forest?) campground for 20 bucks a night... which is pretty steep for two people, especially after getting used to free/lowcost camping out here.

What's the best place to camp near rumneynow? Don't need anything special, just a place to park a car, pitch a tent... bathroom/outhouse a plus but not necessity. Legal also preferred. Don't want to be further away from the crag than say, campton (compton? forget).
I know D-acres used to be cheap but I hear there was a price increase. What about the place right across the street from the rumney parking lot?
Thanks in advance

Eric

Either across the street at the Camara's for 8/night + free parking or down Rt 25 a half mile or so is the new Pine whatever camping which is 10/night both have minimal bathrooms but nice places to set up your tent.

i still haven't forgiven D-acres for their car spamming/fliers a few years ago.. so screw them.

There's also the Baker River Campground which is on Quincy Rd just a couple miles from the parking lot (and about half as far from the Pound). I think it's $10/person/night for climbers.

Baker River is perhaps the nicest campground in close proximity to Rumney.

Mountain Pine's Campground has posted this comment on the Rumney Page:

"Mountain Pine's Campground is open for the 2010 season. No reservations needed we have plenty of room for all. Hot shower and own site on Baker River. Visit moutainpinescampground.webs… for more information. For the month of April rates are 10.00 per person per night. Call 603-786-9955 for more information. Exit 26 off 93. Stay on Tenney Mtn Hwy go to rotary and follow the Polar Caves sign go approx. 4 miles past Polar Caves and look for the rest area signs the campground is on the right. Do not take Old Route 25 we are located on Rte 25 on the river. The address is Mtn Pine's Campground 2759 Rte 25 Rumney, NH 03266. Have a great season climbing we hope to see you soon. Lisa and Scott"

I've never heard much about that place.

A lot of people like D-Acres. After that initial flier brouhaha, they learned their lesson and never did it again. So, Jake, it's time to forgive... dacres.org/

Yea mountain pines is the place i stayed a few weeks ago before Camara's opened up. they were nice and the sites were pretty big.. could fit a bunch of tents on a site if you went with friends and stuff. picnic tables, fire pits, wood for sale there.

i don't have to forgive ;) plus they are more expensive and further away than many other options so it isn't worth the drive for me

Baker River campground is pretty cool....I was there for a week...$10 a night climbers rate...Showers, horseshoes, beach area....

I climbed with you and the Uconn group at the RRG in 2007. Let me know if you need a partner when you are going to Rumney this summer. I want to get back up there asap...unfinished business...

Does anyone have info on off-season camping near Rumney? I looked up Baker River Campground & their site says they close Oct. 11 -- are there other good options?

Campton is year round, you just have to park at the gate and walk to a site. I've also not had to pay during the off season there, though it depends on which trooper checks in on you - and so far, each of the three times I've stayed there off season, a statie has checked in. Maybe it's a big high school party place?

This may be a few days late, but try Mountain Pines. Scott & Lisa are very accommodating.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
