hey folks, i just moved to the area back in august and just got back to climbing since i got all my gear stolen here.

as the snow is starting to fall, i would like to ask all you wasatch-folk where to climb this time of year. looking for sport or trad multipitch or single. also, what places should be avoided?
thanks
Crit

PS message me if you want to climb, cause i know only like 2 climbers here and want to get out more!

Great time for going to the desert! Moab, Swell, Saint George, West Desert etc...you can't go wrong!

the desert is the way to go and red rocks isn't to far away either. even lower little cottonwood is climbable in the winter.

The fact that you spend a lot of time clipping bolts is telling.

Is this a record? 6 posts in and we're already seeing irrelevant and unasked for trad snobbery?!?! Impressive...

Hey Crit-

As Greg G mentions, lower Little Cottonwood on the north side can often be pretty good all winter depending on the low elevation snow. Go check out some of the higher elevation rock that doesn't get shaded by the LCC/Bells ridge. Bong Eater, the Coffin, the Egg, the Sail, Windjammer, and many others are stellar when the inversion sets in and it hasn't snowed in a while (although some of these can get crowded). Lower Ferg is great (Guano and Heart Walls) and certain areas of lower Big can be good. If you want to clip bolts head to A.F. and hike high (I don't have much experience there). This is a great time of year to explore since half the climbers (including me on occasion) are more stoked on putting holes in their skis than searching for warm rock.

Cheers.

The best winter cragging on the Wasatch Front is the Schoolroom wall in Ogden. It bakes in the sun all afternoon, and unlike LCC, BCC and AF it doesn't seep all winter long. Of course, one would have to overcome their SLC bias and bring themselves to drive to Ogden....
