I saw a girl and a guy heading up Yellow Spur in the pitch black dark after climbing on October 1st. I was wondering who these folks were and how often that happens?
I read a story somewhere a year or two ago about some people who regularly climbed pretty hard routes in Eldo in the dark. They each had multiple headlamps, one or more on each foot, knee, wrists, head.
I've done some (deliberate) night climbing in the Gunks, but never anything that hard. Did some climbs by moonlight with no headlamp. That gets exciting when a cloud comes over or you move into a corner, etc. that is shaded from the moon.
If you're climbing with just a headlamp you have to look down to see where your feet have to go, then look up to see where your hands have to go. Your peripheral vision is nonexistent.
