This is a blatant tease but I will put the area up on site in a couple more months after I pick some more of the low lying fruit.

Just wanted to say that I've been working on a new crag for the last few months and I can't wait to start sharing it with the masses. Lots of rock, great camping and just over an hour from Fort Collins. I've started calling it the Halfway House and it's located at the very top of the canyon up above the Palace.

I've started taking some partners up there the last 3 times and they've been some of the best climbing days I've had in several years. Wildlife, solitude, beautiful weather, awesome partners and FA's on a highly visible, yet untouched formation. The routes are long and clean up well, the approach is short and sweet and the area's potential seems to keep on growing.

It's been a long time since I've been this excited about climbing and I'm sorry for the tease but I just had to say something. Stay psyched, everybody.

looking forward to more info, lots to do/being done still in the poudre. However, I find your description a bit confusing (not that it matters really) but the palace is not particularly far up the canyon? and only a 30 minute drive at most from town. Maybe you meant to say "...somewhere between cameron pass and the palace." whatever, though have fun!

Psyched! Can't wait to hear more about it. I'm in Phoenix, but family in Ft. Collins, so happy to hear about a new Poudre area, thanks!!!!

I think he's talking about that huge choss pile above the palace - as in the hills above the Palace - not up river. Lots of rock up there.

If it's an hour out of town it has to be somewhere above the narrows? but a short approach? all the brain power that should go towards my chemistry test will be spent on figuring out where this is instead...

Well, there is a lot of climbing up there and a lot more that can be done.

As everyone may or may not know, the new guidebook for the area (and first ever full-sized guide for it), will be on the shelves next month. Please note that 100% of the profits, will go to Craig's family for his daughter's college fund. Since the authors, the publisher and most of the shops carrying the book are not taking a dime for it (they are forfeiting their share to charity), and the printing was covered by the in-book advertising and a donation... almost the entire purchase price (less shipping, tax, etc) goes directly in.

see here.

Looks like this crag will be late-breaking news, but none the less, it sounds like the info on the area will finally be readily available soon.

Nice work Sam. Your contributions to the palace have been more than anyone could ask. We should all take our hats off to you for making access easier and more environmentally friendly. Can wait to get up to the new place. Glad to hear you're this psyched, stay focused on what's important.

My computer is such a POS. It froze up on me and I unplugged the thing so I didn't even think my post went through.

Kevin's right about the location. The rock is very similar to the Palace; as in some of it is good and some is awful, and I have been known to savor a nice piece of choss. I would argue in my defense though that I put a hell of a lot of thought and effort into cleaning my routes and improving the climbing areas I go to the most. Then again, I used to drink a lot and there's probably more than one person out there who could prove me to be full of shit.

Either way, if you drive fast and have a high clearance vehicle you can be climbing rock at the Halfway House in 75-90 minutes from Ft. Collins, depending on what side of town you live on.
