I am in the process of trying to figure out where to go to law school and I was wondering if anyone would like to chime in on where they know to be good climbing areas(boulder, sport, gear, it don't matter) near good law schools? Any input is appreciated.

I'm a 3L at BYU and the climbing is great. University of Utah is close if you don't want to go to an LDS school.

Hi Sam, I'm in my third year at U of Arizona law school in Tucson, and I think it is great from both a climbing and educational standpoint. The climbing around here is MUCH better than I anticipated, and the crowds are non-existent compared to the Colorado front range, where I used to live and almost went to law school. As good as the climbing is up there, I'm happy I ended up here. One of the great things is that you can climb virtually any day of the year. Feel free to pm me if you have any more questions, especially about programs at the law school. Charles

Thanks for all the input - Keep it coming. Chase I was wondering what specific clmbing you were thinking of that is really near Stanford(which is in palo alto right)? I am thinking within 30 mins of where I am living. I know that the middle of california has alot of quality stuff but is there enough good things to keep you interested in the bay area?

Another good Utah school would be Weber State climbing within minutes from campus (I'm partial to this one because I went there). Utah State is also good. As far as climbing goes all the Utah schools are good. There is good climbing near University of Wyoming as well.

Sam, To answer your question about Stanford: the climbing in the Bay Area is mediocre but not great. There are a few places to climb, Castle Rock State Park, Mt. Diablo, etc, but nothing to write home about. The bouldering is pretty good in CRSP, as well as in some areas around Berkeley. Weekend trips are possible to some of the best granite trad climbing in the world, but keep in mind that most Stanford students (especially those in law school, I presume) will not have too many free weekends to use for climbing. That's just my perspective. I hope that helps. Daniel Edit: To answer your question more specifically, there is nothing within 30 minutes drive of Stanford. Castle Rock is the closest, at about 45 minutes. There are some very good climbing gyms within 30 minutes drive, if that's your thing.

I climbed about every other weekend at Stanford. Active and historic Alpine Club. Great climbing e-mail list. Always people to go with. Spend the whole weekend at Yosemite or Tahoe (both only ~3 hours away). Bring your homework.

Probably not helpful, but Monash University (Melbourne) and the University of Melbourne both have good law schools and are both about 2 hours from Arapiles or the Grampians. I've got an american friend in law school at Melbourne Uni. Sadly for him he's not a climber and just complains about how bad the skiing is.
