Pro Deal Resoles

Hey all,
I am writing to share my horrible experience with Pro Deal Resoles so that others may not have a similar experience and because I have no other recourse in dealing with this company. I sent my shoes to be resoled around the 8th of June in anticipation I'd have them back for a trip the second week of July. On the Pro Deal website it said expect a turnaround of 2-3 weeks. I did not receive them prior to the trip so when I returned I sent an email on the 12th of July. I received a prompt reply on that same day stating that the shoes would be done and in the mail in 5-6 days. I took another trip and when I returned in the beginning of August they still were not at my house. On the 6th of August I sent another email asking about the status of my order. There was no reply. On the 16th of August I sent another email asking that they be returned to me the next day regardless of whether or not the work was done. I did not receive a reply but the next day my credit card was charged. Another ten days went by and I had still not received my shoes so I called Pro Deal several times and left messages at least twice. I was not contacted for several days so I called my credit card company and had them cancel the payment. Then on the 3rd of September I received a text message saying that he had been very busy, was sorry and that they would be in the mail the next day. On the 11th of September I still had not received my shoes so I sent Pro Deal Resoles one more email asking about the status of my shoes, stating that I would like to send them a check for part of the initial charge if I received my shoes and stating that if I did not have my shoes or hear from them with a resolution by Wednesday the 15th I would post this description of my dealings with them online. Clearly, because I have posted this, Pro Deal did not return me my shoes or offer another resolution to the situation. I have had a pair of shoes resoled before by Pro Deal and they did do a good job. However, the length of this process combined with the poor communication on their part(not to mention the loss of a pair of Muiras!) is more than enough reason to never do business with them again regardless of the quality and price of their work.

I need to get my shoes resoled, and after seeing that there are so many post saying that they are doing this I'm definitely not going to use them.

Steve,

That sucks that posting is your only recourse! At least we have this to use to police customer service. ProDeal = off the table for me.

Revisiting my Rock and resole post. Sent my slippers out on Mon. Just got em back. Living in CO gives me a short ship time but still, great workmanship, awesome turnaround time.

I second this experience. It took Benet months to get my shoes back. ProDeal resoles still has horrible customer service, although the actual resole itself is quite good. Won't be using them again, wish I had seen the other threads before I sent my shoes off.

Benet is a piece of shit....He not only stole our shoes, but charged the credit card.....He is a thief. His business license with the Co secretary of state has been expired since 2008, so he is not even paying taxes. They will be getting a call from me, as well as the local newspapers, and anyone I can find who is related to him.
Just send back all the shoes Benet, I will make a trip to Pueblo sometime, and I always remember a thief.

I had a similar problem. I just received my shoes after 3 1/2 months. I never got a single reply to a call, e-mail, or letter. I filed a complaint with the colorado bbb, and I got my shoes a few weeks later, just before the bbb would take stronger action. It is at least worth a try.

His craftsmanship was great, but I will never use or recommend him.

it's been about 4 months for me and i still haven't gotten my damn shoes back, though my credit card was charged just a couple weeks after i sent them out. i'm convinced now that i will never get them back. i don't know where anyone would get the idea that this is acceptable behavior. it's really quite despicable.

cota is absolutely right. this is theft.

To the shoeless among us...

You may want to give the Mountain Chalet (gear shop) in Colorado Springs a call, just to see if your shoes were ever brought to their store by mistake.

To explain: There is an informal arrangement between the Chalet and Bennet. He has a drop box at the store, where you can fill out a form for your resole and drop off your shoes and whatever, and he comes to pick them up on Friday while dropping off the finished shoes from the previous Friday for a total turn around of 1 week. The shoes just get dropped in a bin in the back of the shop and you have to go pick them up. The whole setup is so casual that it really would not shock me if he accidentally left some shoes at the shop that he was supposed to mail out. There is no consistency whatsoever as to the TIME each Friday that he does the drop, but I have had him do at least 10 resoles for me and I always get them back before the Chalet closes on Friday and I always use this drop box method.

Should you decide to call the store, it is possible that the person on the other end of the phone may sound a little lost because like I said, the arrangement is very informal and there is no money exchanged between the store and Bennet. The arrangement is more of a convenience for us who live in the Springs and to help get more people walking through the door. Calling the shop is probably a long shot, but it might be worth it.

As others have mentioned, his craftsmanship is excellent. The work he has done for me in the past has even been better than Yosemite Bum. It is a shame that you all have had these problems, because us locals rave about the resole quality versus price of ProDeal. Bummer.

I would like to add my two cents in regards to the horrible service I received from ProDeal. Its cheap, but totally not worth the hassle. Rock and Resole is excellent.

As of October 2010 Mountain Chalet will no longer be a drop off site or have a relationship with Pro Deal resoles. We would like to have continued with this service for the climbing community, but it is no longer working. Please contact Pro Deal for direct business, or try Rock and Resole.

I would like to chime in here as well. My shoes have been with bennett for two months. I was charged two days after they were brought to him, and i have not heard from him since. I have filed a claim with the BBB, and hope that no one else has to deal with this. Good work or not, he is completely unprofessional, and I will have no problem using Rock and Resole in the future even if it is a few more bucks.

As a final chapter to my story(see OP) my shoes showed up in the mail today. They were resoled and looked in great condition. I hadn't tried to make any contact with Bennet since I made the post. I hope other folks eventually get their shoes as well.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
